I think it's kind of cute for a home bar, but not as a "stock the wedding reception bar" idea.

That is definitely not a thing! Now if you were all supposed to bring a bottle to make drinks with at the shower and you got to take the bottle home with you after that would be one thing but that is very cheap of the couple to ask people to stock their wedding bar. bring them one of those mini plastic bottles that are at the front of the liquor store, they can make one kind of drink out of it.

That seems tacky to have other people stock the bar for your wedding...

Oh god...I'd say bring juice but if it's actually for the wedding reception and you'll be attending, you'll be drinking said juice...I've never heard of this and hope to never hear of it again.

Thank you PPs for clarifying the difference between a party with the idea of stocking the wedding bar and stocking the couple's private bar.

I was worried because that's the idea my best friend had to throw FH and I a his and hers party/ shower since we aren't registering. We told her we loved her idea of our friends giving us a bottle of their favorite liquor.

I think if it is for your personal home bar it is fine, but if you are asking people to stock you wedding bar then it is tacky, IMO.

Did the invitation actually say or someone tell you that it's for the reception or are you just assuming? I know people have them to stock their home bar.

Yikes!! I've gone to stock the bar parties but it was for the couples home. Not the wedding.

Just another way for the couple to pass the cost of the wedding onto the guests.

It shouldn't be a thing for the reception!!! But I went to one 20 years ago to stock their home bar- it was my favorite shower I've ever been to, including my own!!! Lol

Are you sure its for the reception? Stock the Bar showers are common where I'm from but its always to stock the couple's future home's personal bar. I think they are fun and awesome if its for the couple's home. Thats a weird twist if they changed it and made it for the reception!

I've only seen that for housewarming parties, not for showers

Fun for an at home bar, not so much for a wedding reception.

I thought it was like what many of y'all said- stock the private bar but then at work my friend mentioned how great it is that they'll have plenty of liquor to take to the venue and I was like huh? Seems tacky to me too.
