Still haven't found THE dress...

Sara, on February 3, 2013 at 12:01 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 12

I've been to a few shops now and still haven't found THE dress. There are a couple I'm considering but not 100% in love with any of them. I don't want to visit too many shops & try too many dresses as I hear that makes the decision more difficult.

This is the dress I fell in love with online, it's part of the Sattero & Midgley 2013 collection but haven't been able to find it at any shops within a 50 mile radius. I've called over 10 places!!

How long did it take to find "the one" and did you have the overwhelming "this is it" moment?! I'm starting to get worried!

Really? Did you type in the search feature on the website?

    http://www.sotteroandmidgley.com/dress.aspx?style=711533&page=0&pageSize=36&keywordText=&keywordType=All

Under where it has the buttons so you can pin it to pinterest or post on facebook there is an "available at" click on that and if you put in your zip code it pulls up a bunch of places. When I put in a HB zip code there were at least 5 stores that came up... do they just not have that style or something?

Yes, they carry the line by not that style and most of the stores were unsure if they could get it or knew for a fact they did not have it as part of their incoming orders. I reached out to S&M on their FB page so hopefully they can let me know who will carry it.

OH - if it is a 2013 - look for trunk shows... they would probably be getting it for that....

What worked for me and the sales lady said that it was easier for her to look for dresses for me was when I told her everything I didn't like about dresses. That way she could eliminate a lot just off that. The dress I chose was the first one I tried onSmiley smile

I knew I did not want to spend a ton of money on a dress, so I dedcided to get a long bridesmaid dress that came in ivory. Jim Hjelm has a lot of really pretty long dress for WAY cheaper than bridal gowns. Check out my dress http://happinessiscreating.com/my-wedding/ Good Luck!

I went alone to look for my dress and did the whole "I'm not taking any money with me so I don't just buy something without showing it to someone first." I only went because the salon offered me a discount at a bridal show. I was there from 12:30 until 5:00PM!!! I HAD NO IDEA IT WAS SUCH A LONG PROCESS! It felt like I tried on every dress in the shop...but another bride was there trying on a dress and when I looked at it I just knew it was the one. I kept wondering why she wasn't buying it and TAKING OFF! She just kept saying "I can't believe this isn't more expensive." She finally took it off and left without it (because it was too INEXPENSIVE LOL). I asked if I could try it on before I left the salon...and BAM...MY DRESS! It was WAY OVER MY PRICE RANGE (funny right) but it was definitely my dress! I'M SO EXCITED! I'M IN LOVE WITH IT! :-) So you just never know...

You're still in good time...I did my research and found a style I liked online, but still wanted to try on different styles. As I imagined, I went with the style I imagined it and although it was an "Omg, this is it!!" moment, I didn't cry lol The ladies at the store kept telling me I would cry when I found it, but I told them if I laughed and didn't find anything I wanted to remove or alter, THAT would be it lol I'm not a big cryer.

Both times (this is my 2nd marriage) I went to one shop and found THE one in under an hour. It wasn't an emotional decision for me though. I knew my budget, narrowed it down to style quickly, and when I put a dress on and felt amazing in it, I bought it.

With the dress that you love, I get it if you don't want to purchase without trying it on...that's for sure.

I haven't found my dress yet either. I have about a month and a half before I'll need to order. I haven't really looked yet either-I've been to 2 shops, and only because we were out looking at BM dresses. I have an appointment on March 2nd, so that's when I'll really begin.

You'll find a dress, I'm sure. Keep looking. I wouldn't buy a dress if I weren't in love with it, but that's just me.

@Future Mrs. B... that exact scenario helped me find my dress too. The last place I went to, the salesperson asked me what I DIDN'T want in a gown, and she listened to every detail. Each dress she brought to me was more beautiful than the first, and I ended up finding The One. Every other store just pulled dresses in my size, not listening to what I truly wanted. I hate satin, and every other place kept pulling satin dresses for me.

Thanks ladies!! I'm definitely going to keep looking as I don't want to feel like I'm settling. Ill try the "what I don't love" tactic and see if that helps Smiley smile
