Sticker shock

el10717, on September 8, 2017 at 2:38 PM Posted in Planning 0 96

What has been your biggest moment of sticker shock?

For me, it came today when my coordinator finally got back to me with floral decor options to use up the $200 floral credit in our package.

Was not expecting $3,050!!!

ETA: photo of said florals in comments, for some reason I can't add pictures to the first post on my phone.

I would say transportation and flowers were big sticker shocks to me! I ended up finding a great florist who is allowing me to provide my own vases for my centerpieces which helped the cost tremendously. I'm also using a Mercedes Sprinter Shuttle for our transportation to the venue to cut costs. My BM's didn't seem too thrilled, but there's no way I'm paying $800+ for a 20 minute limo ride.

Sticker shock for me has also been floral.

I knew flowers cost a lot of money, but man, I hate that its in the thousands.

We prioritized other things over florals, but we are going with an actual florist and we will have nice flowers, just not big centerpieces.

Oh yeah the transportation does get a little crazy! But I'm like you I can't just justify wasting money like that. You'll have fun in either vehicle anyway.

The photographer for sure...my FH will never get over it! I know you get what you pay for with professional photographers and IMO they are one of the most important parts of the day so I want high quality photos. I was not willing to compromise on them.

Flowers were my biggest sticker shock I think.

Originally I didn't even want flowers, and I thought it was stupid to pay so much money for something that was technically already dead, but after actually attending my wedding, I am SO glad we chose to go for it, and was actually one of the best decisions we made to not cheap out.

Mine was the final tally on the venue. Our first venue cancelled on us, which sucked but when we found our second venue, it quadrupled our price of the venue. Everything else was affordable- our flowers were only $300 from an Amish place, so that was helpful. I didn't even look into transportation. I'm not a bank...

The band! I never wanted a band to begin with and FH was just so happy that they came down to $4,500 for us. Even after showing him that one of the DJs we looked at I could use for ceremony, cocktail hour, reception, get up lighting, and 4 hours of photo booth for less then what we are paying for just reception with a band. That won't be able to do most of the music we want. I sacrificed my honeymoon for the band.

I'm with @GB .. my WW BFF!! My whole wedding was sticker shock.

But most expensive, aside from the venue, is the florist .. $5,400!!! And I'm not getting anything elaborate or out of the ordinary. Smiley sad

Mine only really applies to me, but it was AV! H works in that industry, so he got all the speakers/uplights/microphones/cables/etc for free. A company he does a ton of business with even sent one free technician to set up. Score! But we needed two people for setup, and the *discounted* price for the other guy was $500! I was completely not expecting that!

I had sticker shock with FH's tux. I went around with him and we picked what we liked and the end cost was $220 with it being on sale and rented. Luckily the GM were okay with the price.

Lol the whole wedding @GB ...couldn't agree more! I would also have to say flowers.... I got a quote for 4 bouquets and it was more than my rent. How come they're $20 at the store but $400 each for my wedding!?

@GB We're using Pedestals. I saw 3 florists and I knew going in they were going to be the most expensive, but FH said "treat yo'self" and then he handed over the money lololol. I heard of Black Dahlia and I've heard alot of good things about them, but I'm an idiot and just wanted it booked. Sold my soul to the devil.
