Sterlin Silver Engagement and Wedding Band set

Lacy, on May 16, 2009 at 12:17 AM Posted in Planning 0 10

Although I am engaged already, my fiancee has not purchased a ring yet. Which is something I'm completely ok with, so no worries there. We are both college students (he is in grad school and i'm still an undergrad) and paying for the wedding ourselves so money is tight and I know it is hard to pay a lot at once. I've been looking around and I've noticed that sterling silver rings are much cheaper than white gold ones. I don't have to have white gold or natural diamonds (lab-created ones are just fine to me - it's not like I'm ever going to have it appraised or anything). I've shown my fiancee white gold rings I like but I wanted to know what everyone thought of sterling silver ones before I said anything. Are they sturdy? Do they tarnish easily? Does it cause discoloration? My future career does not require hard manual labor (accounting major) so I won't need to worry about hard wear and tear but I wanted to get a feel for everyone's experience with sterling silver.

Ok so I've done a little research on sterling silver wedding sets and it seems the only problem is tarnish, which mostly happens when it comes into contact with sulfur and hydrogen sulfide. But these same forums also had silver polishes that could be used to get rid of the tarnish and the polishes worked. I think I'm going to go ahead and show my fiancee the sterling silver rings I have found.

If you do go with sterling silver there is a chemical you can get it treated with it is called rodehm (dont know how to spell that sry) but if you ask any jeweler they can assist you with this. Also you should ck out P4 its rings made out of all diff metal materials but wont tarnish and priced cheaper, One place I know you can find this is at Rogers and Holland jewelers, My FI got his there it has 3 diamonds and it was 200.00

Jcpenny has nice sterling silver wedding sets with lab created diamonds and very nicely priced like 100 bucks and I couldnt tell the difference. GL and hope this helped

Yes the 3 sterling silver rings sets I have found are all coated with rhodium which is what they coat white gold and platinum rings with.

I have a friend in the business, her name is Julia. she has but only a few silver engagement rings left. They look amazing, the stone is zircon. and it does have anti-tarnish treatment. I gave my wife the same and it looks the same as a real $20,000 ring.

here is her email if you want her to send you a few pics. The rings price very cheaply, from $100-$250

Maybe ask around your friends and family for where they got their rings. Someone may know someone who could hook you up. My best friend's dad did my engagement ring (he has sweet hookups and has them made in Canada then sells them to other companies) and we must have saved at least $1000. Plus I got to kind of play around with the design and choose exactly what I liked - a sapphire stone instead of a diamond (we saved there too). We're also both in school, so we needed to find something economical. Consider using a different stone than a diamond, too, if you are partial to any colour or precious/semi-precious stone.

Try looking at designbands.com if you want something more durable than sterling silver. They have a great, inexpensive selection. Good luck!

Gorgeous ring! Well I have found "the one"! I am so excited. I don't know when he is going to order it but it doesn't really matter since we are already engaged. I guess I am weird lol. Here it is.

I love it! It is 2.76 ct. If I found that ring as white gold and with natural diamonds, it would cost me a fortune!
