Staying Sane During These Insane Times

Erin, on April 8, 2020 at 9:13 PM Posted in Community Conversations 1 27

How are you and your Spouse/Future Spouse staying sane through all of this? Whether you live together already or now.

My FH and I are doing our best to spend time together, but also do our own thing. For us, that tends to be playing video games, or watching a show on TV.

Do any of you have any tips, tricks, or suggestions to stay sane during times where it might not be so easy?

I think there definitely needs to be time together and time apart. My husband and I luckily have a house where we are able to spend time apart doing our own little hobbies

That's definitely really nice. We have a 2 bedroom apartment together, but there's still not a lot of "stuff" space to do our own thing away from each other xD

My DH is an essential worker and I work for myself. He works shift work therefore every week and a half his schedule changes so we make it a point to eat dinner together daily, we watch his favorite shows when he’s on days on his days off and check on each other during the day😍 so far good I pray we all get through this thing in much better shape than before 😀

Yeah sometimes we can even be in the same room doing different things like I’ll read a book while he’s on the laptop or something. Being together 24-7 is certainly not always ideal in the sense where you should have alone time to do your own thing

We eat together and watch shows. Play our video games separately though. Lol. Also he’s still working since his job is essential. I’m home with the cats. Just made him a mask out of one of my bras. It doesn’t look like it though lol. He says it’s more comfortable than the ones they give at work. I️ lined it and hand sew it. Keeping myself busy and distracted.

That's clever with the mask Smiley smile We're both still working too. He was moved to overnights for the week (he's a truck driver and they moved him from a city route to a line haul route for the week). and our daughter's daycare closed on Monday. Fingers crossed we a plan materializes for next week or I'll be home with our 2.5 year old lol.

I’m working from home and he’s in grad school, so we’re both busy during the day. Afterwards, we tend to do our own things for a little. We do have a rule that after a certain time is our time to spend together. That’s when we’ll hang out.

Fortunately everyone in our household are essential workers so our regular life hasn't changed at all.

Yes we will! You keep safe as well. I work in medical manufacturing and my boss offered a box of gloves (and masks, but his work gave him a respirator to use) to give to my FH to use while he’s on the road, so that was really helpful

I talk with my family everyday via Whatsapp and Skype so we stay in touch and support each other. Also I found out that quitting the news really helps and so does cardio. I've always been a great fan of sports and now I have a lot of time to do workouts (I follow Jillian Michaels's YouTube guides). I also try to keep myself occupied with learning something new, now I'm learning photo retouching with some easy program called Photodiva, it is funny! And re-watching Grey's Anatomy for the 10th time...

We keep very busy since I am in my last semester of nursing school and he works from home and we’ve also been trying to workout every day. We mostly do our own thing during the day and hang out for a couple hours at night by watching some tv and making dinner together. This seems to be working for us! Been almost a month in quarantine for us and we are in a great place so I can’t complain

We are both essential workers so we work during morning. I also have a second gig I do 3xs a week. We alternate cooking dinner( 2 boys are home) we are usually separate in house watching different shows but we spend quality time together, play family games etc. Nothing has changed for us except the boys being home (1 from college in BUF, step son here from Miami since school is out)

I am still working at my office. My FH is home right now, we just found out yesterday through a news article that his CEO gave an interview stating that they might be closing my FH's company for good if they don't get financing by end of April. So that was a bit of a hard hit for us. But my FH is very optimistic and once places start opening back up he will find something else. He doesn't trust the company to go back there now. He has been doing a lot of cooking and cleaning for the house. We spend most nights together and weekends. I have tomorrow off so we are going to binge watch something this weekend.

Ouch! The CEO should have at least had the decency to tell people directly. An Interview is Not the way anyone should be finding out they might not have a job to go back to. He can definitely find something better.

Yeah. Well and they were supposed be sending furlough letters out; my FH never even got one! So we have no idea what is going on. But we couldn't believe the complete lack of decency and unprofessional behavior that was displayed. My FH is medical assistant and places do have jobs posted but they also have a hiring freeze until the end of the month, but he put applications in so we are hopeful.

To be honest, I'm really struggling. Staying at home has hit me hard. Even though I have a little more time than I used to, I can't seem to summon the energy to do anything I'm interested in. Just keeping my apartment clean takes strength of will. I'm trying to keep in touch with my friends and family (phone/video) and I still get to see my fiance every day, it's just not enough. Extrovert blues anyone?

You’ll get through this. I’m sending hugs your way. I’m an introvert so I don’t quite understand the struggle, but I do like being able to come and go as I please (even if I don’t always take the opportunity). I don’t know you, but you can always message me if you need someone to talk to.
