State side destination wedding

Arianna, on July 5, 2020 at 9:53 AM Posted in Planning 0 8
Hello! My FH and I are currently set to have our big wedding on April 24th, 2021. I live in northern Michigan which has not been hit hard, but our state is currently going backwards like many other states. We will be able to recoup most of our money if we make a decision to cancel more than 6 months prior. We have planned a nice wedding but do not want to pay out a ton of money if we have restrictions. Postponing is out of the question as we will have a two year engagement at that time and would like to start married life without planning a wedding. So here’s my question: where should I look in the US for a small destination wedding? We would be okay having our date be anywhere between January 1st and May 1st. Thanks in advance!!

If you like snow, cold, potentially winter sports, we have several companies that do elopement packages here in CO. I would first decide what you want with your elopement- big city, beach, mountains, etc, and go from there. I’m sure there are wedding planners with elopement packages all over the US. Hope everything works out for your original date- our engagement is 19 months so I understand!

I'd pick a place you can drive to. That way you and FH can stay safe. Some place where no one (within reason) has to fly or take the train. I think Petoskey MI is gorgeous. I spent a few weeks there in my 20s

Hi Arianna! Which restrictions are the ones that concern you the most? Is it just a potential guest limit? Because other things like mask mandates and spaced out seating might be here for awhile!

I totally agree with Julie on planning within driving distance if possible, and love Jessica’s suggestions of a wintery mountain venue! Saugatuck also looks like a gorgeous place to get married if it’s warm enough in March. Other popular Michigan destination venues to check out are the Grand Hotel in Mackinac Island, Downtown Market Grand Rapids, and Zingerman’s Cornman Farms.

Hi! I think we would prefer to fully cancel and do something small since the mask mandates and spaced out seating is here to stay for a while. Thanks for the suggestions😊

Of course! It's so beautiful, isn't it??? Especially if you can find something at Waloon Lake for photos or ceremony! And you can wear petosky stone jewelry if you love it as much as I do Smiley smile It would definitely be a "something old"

I just booked the Lake Bluff Preserve in Frankfort Mi to have a small wedding of about 50 people. We are paying for accommodations for 22 people and another family member is renting the house next to it on the property for more people. It is absolutely gorgeous. Check out their fb page!
