Just got engaged and I am ecstatic to be marrying my best friend! Just wanted opinions from others... My ring is beautiful, but my fiancee says it is just a small engagement ring so that I can wear it regularly and my wedding ring is going to be the "showstopper". I have no doubt that my wedding ring will be perfect, but I love my little ring, and it does seem like a ring I could wear daily without being worried about it! But, he wants me to tell people that it is just the "starter" ring. I feel ungrateful saying that to anyone. I don't know if he is embarrassed by the ring even though it is still a beautiful .16 carat ring from Tiffany... I am not super materialistic, so I love it all the same but what should I do about this weird request from fiancee?

A perfect example of how fragile a man's ego is...

Tell him you love it !! When I first got my engagement ring I freaking loved it.. but it did make me think it was smaller then my other friends but I don't care. All that matters to me it was that he picked it out for meSmiley smile He shows his love towards me in so many ways so the material stuff doesn't matter to me.

Talk to your FH about your feelings. If you love it tell him and explain to him how it fits you

I would not call it a starter ring in public. It does come off as ungrateful/materialistic imo (even tho that might not be the intent). It's sweet he wants to get you a nice wedding band but it seems to me he's embarrassed by the ring so maybe try to tell him how much you love it and tell him your feelings

Just don't mention it. You're the only one that knows it's a starter ring

My FH and I looked at rings online before the proposal. He wanted to get me a diamond and I had to fight tooth and nail for the pink morganite ring which he eventually go me. I love it and it's everything I ever wanted even though it used to be "budget ring" in his eyes. He's since realized how in love with it I am and is happy he bought it.

If you love it, tell him that and hopefully he will realize its perfect for you.

Yeah I would never call it a starter ring to anyone. That sounds so bratty and ungrateful. Sorry. I feel like engagement rings can make people feel bad. you see women with these huge, really nice rings, and hear how much people are spending, and it can make someone feel self conscious about having a less expensive, smaller stone. It's dumb. I don't know why society has to be like that. It's supposed to be about what the ring symbolizes. I also really hate how when you get engaged, the first thing women say is "ohh let me see your ring!" Like that's the important part.
