Stark Suits --anyone hear of them or order? Can't find reviews

vicky, on January 19, 2014 at 4:38 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 8

So I managed to find a website that allows you to pick all the details and submit all the measurements to order a "custom" suit online. The store is based out of NYC but I moved to PA and don't have the time to go there in person. I have no idea what a "tropical wool blend" is, and I can't find any reviews online for this place. FH works 100 hours a week and has absolutely no time to shop for a suit (refuses to wear a tux) so the whole measure him at home and order it online is kinda great for me. The pictures they have online look great but I'm nervous.

Anyone ever hear of stark suits, order from them, know of someone who did?

I have never heard of them, but I can't imagine ordering a suit online.

Is there someone in your are who could do something similar. Online sounds like it could be risky.

Never heard of them. I cannot stand the look of tuxes, so we ordered a really nice suit from Nordstrom (on a good sale) and are getting the suit custom fitted at a tailor. Maybe your FH can squeeze in 30 min for a good fitting?

There are a number of online semi-custom suit retailers out there. I can't say that I have heard of Stark specifically but many of them allow you to pick some options, send your measurements and they are constructed (often in Asia to keep the price-point low) and shipped to you.

When you have a full custom suit made, it requires a number measurements beyond what you'd take at a menswear shop selling ready-to-wear items and often one or two fittings/adjustments once it's been constructed (usually in the US) to get to a final fit. You also pay significantly more for full custom.

The trend with many of the online-only semi-custom suit companies has been to establish temporary pop-up shops in major cities to take measurements for their customers. This tells me that perhaps people aren't as comfortable taking all the measurements (or getting them correct) themselves. My thoughts are if you go this route, you may still need a local tailor that can make final adjustment. Best of luck!

Thanks Guys. I've been trying to do some more research and still nothing. I did come across reviews and even articles in Forbes about other companies who do the made to measure online thing, but they are double what Stark was offering. Since nobody has heard of stark specifically, I'm thinking it was too good to be true and too risky. For now, I think FH is going to have to suck it up and rent a tux because I'm too nervous to try this out for our wedding.

Thank you Matthew for the detailed advice. I'm going to keep some of the other names I found for suits in mind for the future.

    Hi everyone.

I'm Josh, co-founder of Stark Suits. I came across this wedding forum and saw us being mentioned by Vicky. This is my first time posting here.

First off, I do want to apologize for the fact that our web-presence is well.. not present Smiley winking. You see, I started this company with a few friends and we decided to go for local presence and stay within circles of friends (our friends Smiley winking for a while. I still believe good things spread through word of mouth. Honestly, we are still very much in the stage of spreading seed.

I want to mention that in the past year, we've had a lot of success with wedding suits. We usually outfit the entire grooms party. Often times, we design a look (according to the color/design scheme of the wedding) and make sure to harmonize with the bridal party (they're pretty important too Smiley winking. And everything is on the table, meaning we accomodate special requests- different color buttons, monogramming, etc. After all, that's what custom is for.

Honestly, looking back on the past ten wedding we helped, seven were spot-on 100%. Three needed to have minor alterations (think pant hem). In that case, the alterations were performed locally and we were able to refund the cost for this or offer a discount on their next suit. We are hoping that someday we can attain to 100% accuracy. But it's true that, following the video instructions and measuring accurately is not always the easiest thing. It's daunting for some. A meticulous personality has an advantage here.

That said, when a customer purchases a suit from us without getting measured by one of our NY agents, the measurements provided are thoroughly checked for consistency. For example, there are basic principles of anatomy that our tailors are aware of. So the numbers provided are combed over and info like height and weight are factored in. Then, if some measurements are suspicious, we flag them and send an email requesting a double-check. Usually we suggest a number or a range that would seem more appropriate. Sometimes, we ask for a front/profile pic to get an idea of body shape. The more references we have, the better we can deliver.

Well I got into a pretty lengthy explanation there... Getting to the point, we are a small business that employs strict quality standards and gives a lot of attention to each suit. Vicky mentioned our low prices, which we are pretty proud of. Lower prices mean our margins/profits are lower, not that our tailoring is inferior. In fact, our fabric quality is on par or usually superior to most "Macy's suits". My partners and I are young and this is our first start-up endeavor. We started Stark Suits on the basis that customer satisfaction is the most important thing. I guarantee that this will never change.

For Vicky: I notice that your wedding is at the end of May. Did you already commit to another suiting website? Since this is my first time on weddingwire, I'd like to offer to make your "FH" (is that for fiancee? I'm clueles) a suit on us. You can measure yourself at starksuits.com and we'll send you the suit. In return, I simply ask that you write an honest review of the experience and post it here.

My husband and I are huge fans of starksuits! We have ordered several suits for my husband and one suit had pockets that looked really bad on my husband (our fault for ordering the wrong thing) and they took care of it right away and shipped it to us in time for our very close deadline. It was so amazing!! They are so nice and so efficient!!!! See our wedding site too see my husband's suit - it's a Stark Suit. https://m.weddingwire.com/wedding-photos/real-weddings/christine-andre--rw2553355

    Hope that's helpful!!
