Standard Zazzle envelopes w/invitations tackily note: "additional postage required" :-/

My Mom just received our invitations (ranging from 4.25" x 5.5" to 4.5 x 6.25", standard greeting card sizes) and we're bummed about the envelopes that come with them. My Mom just received our invitations (ranging from 4.25" x 5.5" to 4.5 x 6.25", standard greeting card sizes) and we're bummed about the envelopes that come with them. If you purchase invitations from Zazzle, the envelopes say "additional postage required." This is even though the website clearly states "Postage rate for this size invitation (up to 1 oz.) is $0.49." As of January 24, 2014, the standard stamp costs $0.49.

We contacted Zazzle to see if we could get plain envelopes without any writing, and they said: "Unfortunately, all envelopes that Zazzle supplies, as standard, have such markings on them. As such, we would not be in a position to provide white envelopes, without markings, as this is something that we do not stock." So much for "standard white envelope included."

We're bummed that this writing looks tacky and that we weren't informed that the envelopes would have -any- writing. The post office gets the final say if we need extra postage, so why, Zazzle?! Ugh.

    In my experience, all envelopes that are over the standard letter size are marked with "extra postage required" but it is the size of a stamp so you won't see it with postage on.

    As a zazzle seller, this is upsetting. I was also under the impression that the envelopes sold with the invites were totally blank, unless you choose to design some to match.

    If you are looking for replacement envelopes, you can order inner/outer sets from most envelope supply companies. Try

    However, the double envelope standard typically applies to higher-end invitation sets, not flat cards, like the ones Zazzle sells. These days, most couples are opting for a single envelope with casual address formatting to save a few bucks.

    @Lindsay, the envelopes are for cards that are 4.25" x 5.5" to 4.5" x 6.25". According to the US Postal Service Guidelines, these envelopes shouldn't require extra postage based on their size.

    To be eligible for mailing at the price for letters, a piece must be:

    * Rectangular

    * At least 3-1/2 inches high x 5 inches long x 0.007 inch thick.

    * No more than 6-1/8 inches high x 11-1/2 inches long x 1/4 inch thick.

    @goskell, I can see what you are saying about the invitations not being part of a formal set with an inner and outer envelope included. My mom and I were taking the approach of ordering a ceremony invitation card, a reception information card, and an RSVP card from Zazzle so that we'd receive three envelopes along with the three cards: one envelope for mailing the invitation to the guest, one envelope for the guest to mail the RSVP card, and one envelope to act as an inner envelope.

    @goskell -- thanks for the tip! The LCI Paper envelopes are really nice and a good option if we can't get things resolved with Zazzle.

    Here is a picture of an envelope with the extra marking on it, if anyone is curious. As we have correctly thought, this is not a big deal if you are not using an inner envelope, as the mark would be covered by a stamp.

    Have you thought about putting a sticker or some sort of seal over the " additional postage required" part on the inner envelope? Maybe something like this?

    The envelopes I received from VP did not have this written on them.

    Alright, ladies ... heard back from Zazzle (it's kind of long, so it's shortened):

    "With regard to the issue of the inner envelope; all Zazzle invitations are provided with, at no additional costs, a single white envelope, the intention of which it is provided as being to facilitate the postage of the invitations itself, and we have generally found that this system of provision is the one favoured by our customers ...

    "That said; we appreciate your concerns in relation to this issue, and I have passed on your comments to my relevant colleagues in our content development team for consideration ...

    "As to customers previously being provided with envelopes without the referenced text, perhaps this was in reference to the Envelopes by Envelopments we offer? These are, however, a separate product, requiring separate purchase, and are available at the following link: http://www.zazzle.com/5x7_colored_envelopes-256443494792211626 ...

    Unfortunately, we would not be in a position to provide a refund directly in relation to envelopes ..."

    So, yeah, despite The Zazzle Promise of 100% Satisfaction Guaranteed, they will not be replacing the envelopes with unmarked envelopes or offering us credit for the envelopes.

    It's not worth the hassle to return the order due to the envelopes since the invitations themselves turned out as expected, but I was hoping for a better customer service response. Thanks, again, to everyone with their suggestions and thoughts. Hopefully Zazzle will start providing plain envelopes with this feedback. We'll see ...

    @goskell, I ordered a sample from LCI Paper and sent it to my mom, so hopefully this will work. It only cost $1.25 for the sample, including shipping, which was really nice. Thanks, again, for that suggestion!

    Thats strange. I bought my save the dates and invitations from Zazzle. I received all plain white envelopes. You should really talk to someone one from zazzle because that can't be right.

    So, after emailing back and forth with Alan at Zazzle, I tried calling their customer service line. Brianna basically said the same thing: they don't have other envelopes without that marking, they can't replace them, they think other people don't have this problem b/c they put the stamp over the markings, but they'll pass along the feedback ... ugh. On the bright side, I just ordered some envelopes from VistaPrint and customized a design to match our invitations.
