Stamps?

KellySD, on June 4, 2015 at 12:45 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 27

We're starting to assemble and address our wedding invitations (the most daunting task ever imo) and I realized I have zero clue about stamps. I know that we'll obviously need postage for the invitations and then we'll provide postage for the RSVP envelope. We're sending about 110 invitations.

Where did you all buy your stamps? I've seen a lot of beautiful and unique stamps on Pinterest-worthy envelopes - I feel like they're all, "Use vintage stamps!" and I'm like "Where do you even find vintage stamps what the heck." I love the look but have no idea if it's practical or even remotely affordable. Did anyone do anything creative or unique? Or did you just opt to go with classic forever stamps? Any hints/tips? Thanks!

    We did classic stamps.

We had the option through Zazzle.com to create custom stamps, but we decided it was not worth the cost for an envelope that is going to be thrown away

I used regular stamps and Batman stamps from the post office. No one notices or cares about stamps.

I just went to the Post Office and got forever love stamps for the RSVPs and butterfly stamps ($.70) for the invites. They do have wedding themed stamps at $.70 stamps. It just seems easier to go to the PO, the guy I had was very nice. Obviously, I'm not the first person who has come in with such questions.

I got heart stamps around Valentines Day for our save the dates and just went with the white rose stamps they had recently for our invites. I could not remember a single stamp on any other invitation I had ever received so I didn't spend any extra money on cute stamps.

I bought them through USPS.com - I liked that I could be indecisive and go back and forth without the judgement of a postal employee. Haha. I ended up getting birds because....cute. Then I realized we're going to need extra postage for our square invites, so it's back to USPS I go!

I went to the post office on Tuesday and got the cute Vintage Rose ones....I bought 200 of them for $98. I sent out 95 invitations 3 were international. The international stamps just went up in price to $1.20 each and the regular stamps are still .49. I hope that you don't have any international ones because you need 6 per invitation 3 for the RSVP and 3 for the main envelope!!!! UGH!

EDIT: Don't forget to weight the invites before buying the stamps.

We bought the Forever heart stamps at the local Post Office! They almost cost more than the invites themselves lol

I bought the forever vintage rose stamps. They were my favorite and getting custom stamps just wasn't worth it for me. Look on USPS.com to see what designs they have that you might like.

I used the Johnny Cash stamps because he was BA.

I wouldn't stress about stamps at all - no one is going to notice which ones you use.

Definitely take an assembled invitation to the post office with you - you don't want your invitations to go out with inadequate postage!

I am using the wedding cake stamps. I just spent the whole day calling every post office in 3 counties, looking for the new 71 cent ones! Nobody has them in yet. They only have the 70 cent ones, and hideous 1 cent Tiffany lamp stamps to go with them to make it 71 cents. I finally found a post office that has them, and it's about 45 minutes away. I'm going tomorrow morning to buy them.

Take the invitation to the post office once it's done. I bought all of my stamps for the regular postage and it ended up being 70 cents since it had a bump in it. Don't be like me and make the mistake of buying stamps too early. While you are there you can look at their selection and pick what you like. I wouldn't spend more on custom stamps but you can at least find ones that you like.

My fh bought the stamps from the post office. He wasn't thinking at all! Our $1.20 stamps were goats. Yes, goats! But that was classy in comparison to our RSVP stamps which were dinosaurs! Metallic big Dino stamps! I laughed so hard at him! Our invitations were rather classy so the Dino's on the rsvp's look silly! I ended up really liking them though just because I'm sure it made a few people smile at least!

I'd notice a dinosaur stamp and I'd love it.

If you are looking for a particular stamp- go to the post office with your invites in hand and get them weighed. They can tell you what stamps you need for your invites and rsvps. Then go online and find stamps that fit that criteria...

But I'm with most people- no one is going to go crazy over what stamps your put on your envelopes. Don't overspend in this area

@Amanda HAHA that is AMAZING. Personally I'd love some dino stamps. If I sent FH to get the stamps he'd probably come back with the same thing.
