I have never thought of this! We had a round cake. Square seems nice too though

I like round better. I think it’s more classic and traditional.

I’m going with a traditional white, round cake. Square cakes are nice, but I personally like the look of a round cake better.

    Hey Melanie!

Have you decided which you want for your wedding? I haven't ever given much thought to a square cake before so I was inspired to look on Pinterest! I've added a few of my favorites!

Take a few things into consideration in order to decide.

Square cakes usually cost a bit more because they yield more servings per tier due to shape.

Round cakes are classic and usually the default shape for a wedding cake. Square is more modern and structured. Depending on the overall theme of your wedding one shape can be better than the other at playing up the theme. For something timeless, romantic, soft, floral etc go with round. For something modern, industrial, unique, elegant with clean lines, go with a square.

If you have a particular design in mind that might also help you choose. For example, if you wanted a monogram on your cake, it might sit best on a square cake because of the flat edges.

If you really wanna go crazy, look at cakes with mixed tiers. They have a combination of both.

I prefer round. Square would be much too modern for our wedding.

I hate baking square cakes and trying to keep them square with sharp corners. Since my MOH and I will be baking it ourselves and it fits my vision best I opted for round. I have seen some absolutely stunning square cakes though.

I also prefer a round cake. Square cakes are nice as well; just a little too boxy for me.

I like round better. Square is too harsh and boxy for me.

I think they both look nice, but don’t really have a preference so long as they taste good lol

I've seen lots of pictures of really pretty square cakes, but I like round better for a wedding. It seems more traditional and elegant.

I think it totally depends on the design and your style! Do you have any inspiration in mind for square or round options?

I see a ton or round cakes so I looked up some fun square cake inspo:

As long as it tastes good, I'm good.

We'll be opting for a traditional white round cake similar to this one. Our venue will already be decorated for the holidays so no need for a show stopper piece.

I like both round and square. Cake is cake to me and both shapes make for gorgeous cakes. My cake layers are square.
