I am trying to decide between the two. I am getting married in August and I do Tan pretty good in the summer since we are always at the lake and I'm always in a bikini, but I am really worried about my bikini top tan lines. The back of my dress is lower then my tan lines, so they will be seen. I mostly only wear a strapless top so the back tan line is usually the only one I have.

I am either thinking about starting to slowly go to a Tanning salon and get a nice base so the Tan lines will be less and more blended, OR spray tan and hope that evens out the tan line. But honestly I don't have any experience with either. I am also worried about the whole tanning bed cancer thing.

GAH!! Advice please Smiley smile

Spray tan. My uncle passed recently from skin cancer.

Spray but go with a personal airbrush so they can get rid of those tan lines for ya.

I'm not against tanning. I enjoy it, but I tan very easily so I don't have to go often.

Everytime this topic comes up I'm always a loud advocate against tanning beds. It really just isn't worth the risk. Regardless of if you burn or not you are damaging your skin, which will cause premature aging and greatly increase your risk of skin cancer. Tanning outside is also dangerous. My recommendation to avoid tan lines is to wear sunscreen and protect your skin. Then get a spray tan if you want a little color or embrace your natural color. I have two family members that are skin cancer survivors, one spent many years using tanning beds, the other how spent too much time outside without sunscreen; both are dangerous. And both have lasting scars that look a lot worse than pale skin.

Everyone is going to warn you against the dangers of the sun, which is true, but I am also a sun worshipper so I'm going to give you an honest answer lol.

When I was in college I went tanning pretty much every day, including looking nice and dark in the winter (forgive me- I was a cheerleader and it was also the age of Jersey Shore lol). I've since quit that, but I love to tan in the summer and I still go tanning (in a tanning bed) before summer to get a base and prevent burning. I just started my "operation get dark for the wedding" this week actually lol.

I will ALSO be getting a spray tan just prior to the wedding, to even me out and make sure I look exactly like I want to. Since I quit fake baking regularly, I get spray tans pretty often, pretty much for any important event or night out. I have never done the mystic (the machine), I always do it at a salon/spa with a person. Highly recommend spray tans!!! Just do a few test runs first, to make sure you know how your skin will react and make any adjustments if you need to.

I actually just used Jergins Natural Glow lotion--if you are only concerned about the one tan line, that might be an easier and safer solution for you than a full tan.

Thanks guys. I should add when I tan outside or do anything outside the sunscreen is applied. My dad is First Nations so I tan reguardless if I put sun screen on or not.

I love jergens.. I use it on my legs all the time when I actually want to look tan and have not been outside. I am also worried about the spray tan running.

I don't under stand how people fear tanning beds but are happy to lay outside all day with no control over the level of exposure.

I do not regularly use tanning beds, but I have been to prep for the wedding. I am a bridesmaid 3 weeks before my own wedding so I was scared about my pasty white legs.

I would say spray because it is safer.. but depending on how much you sweat (taking into account nerves and your mid august wedding) chances are it will bleed.. If you start tanning maybe 2-3 times a week maybe a month before your wedding you should be beautifully bronzed!

And for those pesky tanlines.. i usually rub jergens natural glow on my collarbone and shoulders where the straps hit and that usually doesnt run.

I'm getting sprayed. I've had many spots removed from my body (with more to be done post wedding). No way I'm going under those UV lights!

If you're new to spray tan, do your research. Some have machines, some are done by people. Some brand sprays are more orange looking than others. I'd also suggest having a test tan done so you can decide how dark to be on the big day.

I'm having mine done a week in advance so it looks like a natural tan for me. I don't ever get really dark and don't want to look like I have a fake tan on my wedding day. Good Luck!!

I don't lay out and I don't use a bed. I know too many young people who have suffered from melanoma and other crap. There's a reason I look 10-15 years younger than all my friends. No moles, no wrinkles and no widening pores.

I don't tan often but when I have a wedding to attend or a special event coming up, I do go tanning a few times. For my wedding I plan to tan in a tanning bed. For me, personally, I burn easily in the sun without a base tan so if I want to be tan for my wedding & go on my honeymoon without cooking like a lobster then I need to tan in a bed for a good base tan.

Another vote against tanning beds for health reasons. Beauty in my opinion is not worth increasing your risk of skin cancer.

Ahh! Pale Irish girl here and I used to fake tan all the time.. i was blonde and super tan and my skin felt terrible. So against tanning beds now as FH's father passed from Melanoma so going to a tanning bed would be a slap in his face. I do spray tans for events and don't have issues with it rubbing off once I have showered. Go to a PERSON though! Also I second the comment about the Fake Bake for the ladies who don't have a good tanning salon near by. You rub it on with a glove so its even. There is also this stuff which makes your legs look like you have on stockings: http://www.walmart.com/ip/10322898?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedItemId=10322900&adid=22222222227010668175&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=c&wl3=42973588832&wl4=&wl5=pla&wl6=81465718952&veh=sem AKA flawless! I will be tanning in a bed. I'm 28 and have only tanned for three separate brief periods in my lifetime (an few months each time). Otherwise I have sworn it off as an regular practice. But on my wedding day, I will be tan. I think tanning is one of the most relaxing and incredible experiences lol.
