Spray tan or tanning bed

Hayley, on February 25, 2015 at 2:15 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 36

I am trying to decide between the two. I am getting married in August and I do Tan pretty good in the summer since we are always at the lake and I'm always in a bikini, but I am really worried about my bikini top tan lines. The back of my dress is lower then my tan lines, so they will be seen. I mostly only wear a strapless top so the back tan line is usually the only one I have.

I am either thinking about starting to slowly go to a Tanning salon and get a nice base so the Tan lines will be less and more blended, OR spray tan and hope that evens out the tan line. But honestly I don't have any experience with either. I am also worried about the whole tanning bed cancer thing.

GAH!! Advice please Smiley smile

Considering I've had to have some cancerous moles removed from my body.... and I used to tan.... I vote spray tan. Its not worth it.

Spray tan doesn't always help with tan lines, anywhere you can lay outside nude at your lake/house?

Spray, definitely. Maybe even consider one of the self-tanning lotions just for that spot.

Starting to go now wont do much, the tan lines don't "blend" or become less likely to appear if you have a base tan from fake bake.

Personally, I prefer a bed when I'm getting color, because I like to take a nap. But if I'm tanning for a specific event then I do a stand up as the coverage is more even. Every skin is different, but I've had friend go two times a week for a month to even out the swim suit lines and for some it was enough, others they could have gone a couple more times.

The key with tanning in general is to not burn. And honestly tanning is dangerous regardless, since you can burn indoors or outdoors. People get in trouble tanning when they want to be tan this weekend, so they go in a tanning bed and start off doing the maximum time wayyy too quick. Some tanning beds actually have two different lights, UVa and UVb. UVb are the burning rays, and light emitted from tanning equipment contains approximately 40% less UVB rays than natural sunlight. So if you do decide to tan, wherever it is, just make sure you give yourself plenty of time, and start slow.

I personally prefer stand up tanning beds. I don't like the way spray tans look.

If you've never done spray before, go now and try it out and that will give you time to decide. There are many different qualities of spray tans. Some where you stand in a booth and a machine sprays you all over. Some where someone with a spray gun actually does you and takes the time to apply extra where needed and go in between your fingers and gently around your hair line etc. I recommend going on a Sunday, shower and shave before you go, then don't wear any makeup or sweat excessively for the rest of the day. Hang out in comfy clothes and just let it set in.

    Spray.

I know everyone knows the dangers, but I'm going to reiterate one more time: this is just too dangerous to risk. I have had a pre-cancerous mole removed and I have an appointment tomorrow to check out a few that look suspicious. My mom recently was diagnosed with melanoma. It's terrifying to hear a doctor even suggest that they have to run tests to see if something is cancer. Just don't do it.

Valarie, if you get it a few days before it *shouldn't* bleed. I've only done it a few times, but last time I did I went on a Thursday, showered on a Friday and it looked like I slaughtered an oompa loompa in my bathtub, but on Saturday I was good to go. Didn't get on my clothes at all.

I spray tan year round.. EVERY DAY. but I'm getting a real tan for the first time in years before my wedding and honeymoon. Spray tan ruins any fabric it touches, it's a pain in the ass, it fades extremely fast, and I want to be super bronze in the ocean! I'll be blotchy and gross if I get a spray tan. And my dress will literally have brown down the sides by te time my reception starts!

I'm a tanning bed gal myself. I used to tan frequently but haven't in a while. I'm used to it and I enjoy it. I've seen my friends spray tans and they have always been messy and rub off on things.

Spray tanning is obviously the healthier option- but not only that- to me, it really makes your skin look more flawless.

But if it does bleed- eek. That would be terrible.

Spray tan with a technician, they can specify the spray patterns for your body with your differing natural skin tones.

If you are getting married in August, I'd go with normal tanning bed or natural sun if you can. Spray tan- especially if you sweat may be risky especially since you'd be new to it and it may bleed off or through. There's really a process in it- exfoliating and more exfoliating in order to avoid an orange tan.

Or best case scenario, when you tan outside, unstrap the back of your bikini when you lay out Smiley smile so no tan lines. I know tanning in a bed is harmful, we all do bad things so do whatever is more comfortable. Try a spray tan out- see how you like it & don't forget to exfoliate before and wear loose clothes!

    Good luck!

Use this stuff. I got a sample at a convention (I'm in the industry) and it is seriously amazing. I'll be using this for my wedding next week.

I tan easily too and I used a stand up bed to even out tan lines. I went for one month. I started off with a short amount of minutes and slowly worked my way up to the full time. I used a tanning lotion on my tan lines the last couple days because it hadn't evened it as much as u had hoped for. That helped! I had a strapless dress and my tan lines weren't noticeable. **If I didn't tan easily, I would not have gone to a tanning bed.**
