Are there any brides who went over budget on their wedding dress? Please tell me how do you feel? Is this a good idea?

My original budget was $1k. My mom offered to pay for my dress and gave me a new budget of $3500. Came in way under at $1600 before alterations.

Splurged on my 3K budget with a 4500 dress. Ines di Santo though, and her daughter was there to help me try it on during the trunk show so I felt amazing after. I don't regret it but have to be stricter on other things now. Borrowing an aunt's veil and using shoes I already own to save $$

My budget was 400 and I spent 700 On a dress that was originally 2,000. The shop had designer dresses and they were closing down so I got a great deal. I'm so happy with the quality of my dress it was worth it.

My budget for the dress was ideally 1200 and i spent exactly that on the dress itself so once I include alterations I will technically be over. But I used a bunch of savings bonds to purchase my actual dress so I don't feel as bad about the alterations coming out of pocket and I have a ton of time to save extra money towards them

It all depends on how much over budget and how good you are at handling that. if its like 100 dollars over I wouldnt think that was such a big deal but if you blew like half your wedding budget on it that would be a problem.

Nope. I went to a sample sale and found my exact dress brand new for $900. Look for ways to purchase your "dream" dress in your budget.

What is the point of a budget if you go in with no intent of trying to keep to it?

Yeah, I did. I wanted to stay under 1200, but wound up spending 1695.

Luckily it's not too much extra money in the grand scheme of things.

If you buy this dream dress, trunk about where you can cut money to even it out. (Not food or alcohol!)

When I went dress shopping, I gave the consultant 2 numbers; a number that was my preferred budget, and then a "if I absolutely love it, I'll consider paying that much more" budget." Most dresses she brought me were below the preferred budget, but of course, the one that I fell in love with and checked off all my criteria was closer to the 2nd number!

ETA: The 2 numbers I gave her were only $250 apart, so not that much of a difference.

My dress was double my budget, but included in the price is the pressing, storing, bustling, veil and hairpiece. Definitely worth it so I'm happy!

I'm under budget for now, but it'll probably even out with alterations. I was hoping to spend $1000, willing to do $1200, but ended up at $830!
