Splurge on my wedding dress

Deona , on July 19, 2017 at 12:55 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 52

Are there any brides who went over budget on their wedding dress? Please tell me how do you feel? Is this a good idea?

Blowing your budget on your dress can affect other aspects of your wedding....

I went about $500 over budget and $800 more than the other dress I would have purchased. However, my budget wasn't firm and I had the extra money to spend on it. I would never have done it if I had a strict budget or if it would have affected any other aspect of the wedding.

I REALLY wanted to stay under $1,000, but my actual budget was $1,200 without alterations. I fell in love with a dress on Pinterest and couldn't say yes to any other dress until I tried that one on. It was $1,399. I bought it, and paid $200 for the length to be customized so I wouldn't have to spend money on alterations hemming the bottom which has a lot of detail. We had to cut back elsewhere, but I don't regret it!

I went in with a budget but told the sales girl that if there was something above my budget that I fell in love with I'd definitely consider splurging. I ended up not looking even looking at the prices until I had it narrowed down to two. The one I bought was $500 UNDER budget. Maybe I just got lucky.

Depends on if you can handle going over budget. I was ready to splurge on an AA dress that was my dream at an AA store. Found the same exact dress at a small local salon and alterations were a lot less expensive. I was still over and it was worth it but I worked some extra jobs to make up for it.

I was hoping to find a dress that would be under $2k including alterations. Ended up finding one that was $2,500 not including alterations. Sure, sometimes it gives me an anxious feeling in the pit of my stomach but I don't have a super conventional body type where everything looks good on me, so for me it was worth it to find a dress that I really liked and would be able to look back at pictures from the wedding day without regret.

How "over budget" is over budget? If it's only by a little bit ($950 instead of $900, for example), I think it'd be a lot different than being over by a lot (such as $2900 instead of $900).

Another question to ask yourself: if you splurge, will you have to cut elsewhere to maintain your overall budget? If so, where can you comfortably do that without compromising quality and comfort?

I ultimately ended up going a bit over budget on my dress: while the initial cost was less than I'd budgeted for, alterations and accessories cost more than I'd planned, due to issues with the seamstress. When all was said and done, though, I was over only by $150, and it didn't impact anything else.

It depends on your budget and how much over budget you're talking. My budget was under $1000. I spent $700 on my dress, including alterations and it checks all the boxes on my dream dress - backless, no train, lace. Are there other pretty, possibly even prettier dresses that mine? Probably. But I couldn't justify spending that much money on a dress I'll wear for six hours. Having spent under my budget, I spent a pretty penny on a boudoir book for FH and don't have to worry about spending in other areas of the wedding.

My budget for my dress was around $600. I spent $1,000 on a davids bridal clearance dress. I do not regret going over budget but sometimes i get buying such a big thick dress when my wedding day will be hotter than hades. But other than that, i love it!

I was hoping to stay under $1000, but ended up spending $1400. that $400 was not a huge percentage of our overall budget for the wedding, however.

My dream dress was about $2500 over my budget (which was $2000). I told myself I would be willing to pay it if looked as good on me as I hoped. Luckily for my wallet, it looked terrible on me. I ended up spending $1200 on a dress I loved.

I didn't use our wedding budget to purchase my dress, I used my own personal budgeted money and my budget was 2k with alterations. I spent 1400 on dress and not sure how much alterations are since my dress is not in yet

I went the opposite direction - I budgeted $1400 for a dress, but ended up spending $971 on my dress, petticoat, custom veil (had to be longer because of my height), and a wedding jacket (everything is late 50s style) and even had it custom sized and the back altered.

My big splurge was going above budget on my photographer by $700. So far she has been worth every single penny! Our engagement photos were AMAZING!

I splurged a bit but the first place I went to where I found my dress was a little high end boutique so I decided to go from $2000 to $3000. We had the extra money because we spent less money on the photographer, DJ, and venues so I was ok with it. I'm glad I did up my budget because if I hadn't, I wouldn't have found my dream dress!

My mom offered to pay for my dress, veil, shoes. My budget is around $2k... I don't want to go over that. So far what I've been looking at is way under budget. Smiley smile

I'm strict with the budget. I don't want to cut anything else because I over spent on my dress.

We have a strict budget so I told the sales assistant to please not bring out anything above my budget. She did bring one out but before I lost my sh** , she informed me that it's discontinued and if I like it it's within range. My FH agreed on budget and are sticking to it thus far. So much calmer and not worried about money at all.

My parents bought my dreas for me and because of that I set a limit of 1000 even though my mom said 2000. Well the dress I ended up going with I fell in love with and I was gonna pick a cheaper one but my parents insisted that I got my dream dress despite the cost which was 1500
