Split Shank / Wedding Band Help

Nicole, on July 26, 2017 at 8:02 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 20

Hey guys, I'm looking for some wedding ring help! I have a custom made split-shank, oval engagement ring with pave stones in the band, and I'm having a very hard time choosing a wedding ring. I'm not loving the bent or wavy bands that fit like puzzle pieces (something about too much metal, too many pave stones), and I really do want two standalone rings. I've been really liking the prong-set infinity bands lately (not pave), but as my e-ring is very low profile, it has been a challenge finding an infinity band that works next to it. I don't mind a bit of a gap, but not something huge... I'd like for them to look somewhat nice next to one another.

I need some advice & inspiration please.... thanks everyone!

Pics to follow...

The eternity band that I've had my eye on, however it's on Blue Nile and I'm a little concerned about buying something I can't try on first...

This is pretty low key but adds a little something to a engagement ring with the diamond shape Smiley smile

I would go to a jewelry store and just try on a bunch of different things to see how they look with your engagement ring (which is gorgeous!). I was worried about finding something that looked good with my e-ring and going to the store was the best thing I did.

Allie, I like that! I'm not all opposed to mixing shapes of stones. MrsO I've been to a few in the city but it feels like so many stores have such a small selection! Even Macy's fine jewelry yesterday had only about 20 wedding bands, and most weren't the right style. So difficult!

If you've tried eternity bands and like the prong setting you can be confident in blue Nile. My e-ring is from there. It is gorgeous and I love it.

Nicole, I found that going to privately owned jewellery shops tend to have a little bit more unique selection ( I haven't started looking for my wedding band yet but I'm a freak about jewellery in general lol) or you could see if you can have a custom band made now depending on where you go can depend on how pricey it can get. I'm having the same issue looking at bands myself because I love my ring the way it is and I don't want to take away from the look of my engagement ring with my wedding band

Allie - yes, you're so right! I live in NYC and I've had a hard time even identifying smaller shops. I think I need to spend some time this week and weekend looking for places with unique options.

I wouldn't get a infinity band juat half way around. Because after while with an infinity band the diamonds can fall out... if you hit it something or over time. That's what I was told when I was choosing my wedding band. Good luck!

Ella - I've walked through the diamond district and I'm just SO turned off by the shops there... there are way to many men harassing you from the sidewalk to come in, and it's just not a comfortable feeling at all. I've tried though!

Noelle, thanks for that! Good to know.

My e-ring is from Christopher designs in New York and I love it. He has a huge variety of bands and might have something that would look nice paired up with yours.

I also have a twisted shank engagement ring, although it's a bit different than yours, OP (which is gorgeous!!) I went with a think wedding band with a diamond-cut pattern in it. This gives it a little bit of sparkle and looks lovely on its own, but also looks great when they're worn together.

The picture shows the two bands, but there's really not much of a gap when they're both on my finger at the same time.

Check out Shannon's Jewelers in Bristol. I brought in a picture of what I wanted and they went through all of their vendors to find similar things for me. Ask for Katie when you go!

ETA: I missed your comment about living in NYC. I saw Hartford on your profile and thought you lived closer to central CT.

I looked outside of the wedding band section and ended up with a David yurman piece. I knew I didn't want a curved band so this worked out perfect. I can wear it alone while at work or wear it with my E ring and it looks great both ways. The crossover creates the idea of a curve so the stone has somewhere to sit. Also in the picture the band isn't sized yet so they don't match exactly just yet.

Mine has a slight shank spilt

I'm with you on the curvy bands didn't like it at all!

Ended up with a half way around, with the same millibead as my engagement ring.

Thanks guys!! I think I've got some good inspiration now. I'm also thinking about maybe just wearing my e-ring & wedding ring on separate hands... who cares if it's not traditional! Smiley smile

OMG! I had the same problem! I ended up getting a custom pave shadow band to go with my split shank halo pear ring. I did come close to buying a diamond enhancer ring. I didn't care for it as much because my center stone is a pear. Yours has more symmetry though. Adding a pave enhancer would give it an even more custom look. Might even give it more architectural glamour too.
