Spin-off: Attention Whores (are we allowed to say whores still?)

A recent post got me thinking about the attention whores of the world, esp on social media, and especially those who give weddings/wedding planning a bad name because they make it seem like everyone engaged/planning a wedding are just out seeking attention. On Monday FH sent me this picture...

A recent post got me thinking about the attention whores of the world, esp on social media, and especially those who give weddings/wedding planning a bad name because they make it seem like everyone engaged/planning a wedding are just out seeking attention. On Monday FH sent me this picture (attached- see "show off") "always getting engaged." How do you "always" get engaged? That should only happen once (per marriage). The list is completely STUPID, but I know exactly who they are talking about (posting engagement pictures. Sun: "I said yes" Mon: "this was the best day of my life" tues: "so in love" wed: "can't believe I'm getting married" thur: "650 days until we say I do" fri: "649 days until I marry my best friend"). Those ppl that post about the same thing all the time to get attention. My personal least favorite are the people who go on vacation (and are back from vacation) and post one vacation picture a a day.... seriously. Share your least favorite type of attention whore-ness.

@Margaret OMG gross. I'm grossed out just thinking about it

@Sarah K that is just wrong, like really bad for the child. I have a friend whose mom made her super conceited (her words not mine) always telling her other kids were jealous and she was better than them. She had a very hard young adult life as a result and has a lot of self esteem issues (esp with men).

The good ones get me, too! I admit I have occasionally posted a picture of something I have cooked or ordered in a restaurant, but I have a FB who went through a phase of posting her lunch and dinner EVERY day.

Personally I hate the cryptic poster the most. They are always posting vague things fishing for people to ask them what's wrong.

I really do hate the negative nancy type though. Always complaining about something that isn't even that bad.

I love my sister to death, but she's one of those gym show offs. Pretty much every one of her updates is a pic of her in workout clothes pre or post a workout with some kind of hashtag. Or her weekly meal prepping....

I don't have Facebook because I didn't like their policies. Just wondering but if people shouldn't upload pictures of what they cook, where they vacation, their kids, their views, their workout or their jobs on their own profile because it's all too show offish, then what do you post on your profile? (I totally understand being against the zillion selfie thing.)

@GrumpyCatRebecca I'm guilty of the meal pictures. But I rarely cook (LOL). FH & I were just laughing last week when I cooked bc I couldn't remember the last time I cooked until I saw it on facebook (it had been 7 weeks LOL) #badwife.

    Okay here are mine:

    - someone posts a selfie of them every other day with a caption writing about themselves in the third person. WTF?

    - People who post pics of their children with their school's information on it - like when they post their accomplishments. STOP BEING SO DAMN TRUSTING. Your FB friends DO NOT need to know where your children go to school! Uuughhhh - this happens a lot on the first day of school FYI.

    - the relationship status change every 3 months.

    - people who post their relationship problems on FB. Not the place. Stop airing your dirty laundry to others. Also, you think you're embarrassing your SO, no - you're just embarrassing yourself.

    - people who share violent videos. WHY?

    - people who post they are going to clean up their friends list. BISH NO ONE CARES! Why do you have to make an announcement you're deleting people? Just do it and shut up lol.

Honestly some people I just unfollow so I don't see them on my newsfeed anymore. But once a year I do the clean up.

@Rachel - once in a while/blue moon is okay. EVERY DAY is just annoying LOL. You can use FB without actually having to share/post anything. You can "like" and comment on your friends posts/pictures. My Mom doesn't post anything - she just joined so she can have friends who can give her Candy Crush lives LMAO! Plus she can see/like the things I post.

The Negative Nancy gets me every time. And the overly vague, send us your prayers posts. Both annoy the hell out of me. Don't like your life, change it. Have something going on and need prayers, tell us what to pray about. Don't be vague and make everyone wonder what is going on.

I might be The Showoff by association... DH loves to post pics and proclaim his love and share pics when we take trips. What can I say, we're in love.

Edit: Forgot one, the oversharing parent. Seriously people, don't post pics of your kids naked on FB. I don't care how young they are, it's not ok.

And Nikkell, I absolutely unfollowed both of my sisters. My older sister posts 15 things an hour about what a good man does or doesn't do, shady people memes, and other random passive aggressive crap. My little sister is just a selfish ass.

@Rachel its not that you shouldn't (as above I just admitted to posting cooking pics) just don't do it all the time, bc its annoying. If you just lost 15 lbs and post a gym mirrow selfie... great. If you just got engaged, post your ring.... great. Just don't do it everyday. I have a recently engaged fb friend who posted a picture of her ring while drinking various drinks for 2 weeks straight: her ring with a starbucks cup, her ring with a coffee cups from her job, her ring with a Future Mrs. cup, her ring with her FH's favorite sports team cup. Like OMG. stop.

This is why I want Timehop to die. There's someone on my Facebook who keeps reposting the memory posts from when she was planning her honeymoon two years ago. There have been multiple memory posts this week about her and her now-husband booking the darn trip. We all had to suffer through those daily posts the first time. No need to share them and make us suffer again.

Yeah, so I realize I my initial post was misleading. It's totally fine to post the occasional meal (or anything picture). The person I had in mind posts AT LEAST five days a week with pictures of things they've cooked and brags about how awesome it tasted or how yummy it is or how she got all these compliments from the family. It's really the frequency of it that makes it ridiculous.

I also dislike my my two fb friends that are always talking about their "wedding" but they aren't actually engaged. One shares youtube videos of first dances, reception entrances & sparkler send-offs with things like "we are going to do this at our wedding" or "we need dance lessons hun"

I'm pretty sure I post like 9 pictures a week of my dog.... Although I haven't done it for a while...

But I had this "friend" who did the "659 days till I marry so and so!" Then a week later "so and so and I aren't getting married because blah blah" then two weeks later he's like "a different so and so and I got engaged!" I swear he's been engaged 10 times. Like....really?

    @NenaBear - that's called Vaguebooking LOL.

"Working on a special project - can't wait!"

"I love what just happened to me today! #blessed"

    "I feel terrible. Life sucks."

Those are the posts I scroll right on by.

I've unfollowed so many people recently. It's so nice to not see 20 pictures of their newborn and "mommy and daddy" rituals or the newest love of their life that lasts a week. I take the Love word seriously and these people fling it around with every hookup.

I completely ignore my cousin when she posts things like, "need prayers today" and anything related to that.
