Specific food/drinks on website? Yes or No?

Chantelle, on June 11, 2021 at 11:47 AM Posted in Planning 0 5
I’m thinking to put specific food and drinks info (like what is being served at the cocktail hour and buffet dinner reception) on our wedding website, but I’m not sure if it would be too much? Is it too much information and people won’t even read into it/will just figure out at the event, or do most people appreciate knowing ahead of time? How do you feel about it? Thanks in advance

I probably wouldn't read it, but it might be useful for people with specific dietary issues that mean they need to plan ahead for what they can eat. The only downside I could see is if you had pushy people who would complain to you in advance about your menu. If you don't think that's an issue, then it might be just the kind of information your friend with a dairy allergy (for instance) needs.

As a guest, I probably wouldn't read it. I like to be surprised when I go to a wedding! I would suggest adding something on their RSVPs about any allergies or dietary restrictions, that way you get helpful feedback!

I also agree with Maggie, a downside I could see with having this info available, is that you're opening yourself up for people to complain or make suggestions ahead of time.

I don’t think you need to inform people in advance. Part of the fun of attending a wedding is the surprise of what’s served.

I don’t see anything wrong with it. For example, reply card choices are ridiculously vague with “beef”, “chicken”, “vegetarian” when guests appreciate knowing what they are being served, especially if there are any allergies or other dietary restrictions that the caterer needs to be aware of. Plus making an informed choice. Someone may decide to pick beef thinking it’s rib eye and it turns out to be medallions in mushroom gravy or selecting chicken and it turns to have a sauce or seasoning they don’t like or can’t eat. There may be a side dish they don’t like so they pick the other entree choice. The same applies to vegetarian/vegan options.

I don’t understand why you wouldn’t share the information. They can skip over it if they choose. Plus no one ever knows what the appetizers are even at the cocktail hour.

On our FAQs page, we included one listing food. We put that there would be a variety of hor d'oeuvres, then we listed what was all in the buffet, then said what was for dessert. I feel like, for people with restrictions or allergies, this helps them decide if they need to eat before or not.
