Spanx

Dianne, on May 2, 2011 at 9:40 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 14

Anyone have any experience with Spanx?

My gown is just a bit small and I can't get the zipper up all the way. Spoke with sales dept. at Spanx directly and they said if I get the super-duper compression, it could take me down at LEAST one dress size which means I could wear my gown without alterations.

Any thoughts?

I bought spanx for my MOB dress. They were okay, I suppose. I didn't feel "compressed", just felt like I had on pantyhose without feet. LOL! I haven't worn hosiery in years.

Hey Congrats on the wedding, the spanx are cool but to lose a dress I dont know. You might not be uncomfortable the day or night. Buy it now try wearing for a week if you feel ok then go for it. I want you to think about this You want to be able to enjoy day with out being uncomfortable. Keep me posted and good luck Smiley smile

I tried some off brand spanx and they rolled down the entire time wearing them. Plus they were supposed to help hide my thighs, but they kept riding up my legs,

I wore Spanx under both my wedding dress and my MOG dress. They really help smooth things out, so you don't have that lumpy fat look. However, I don't know that they would really work for losing a dress size.

You may want to look into alterations for the gown. I couldn't get the zipper up on mine initially. However, it had very wide seam allowances, so taking it out a size was not a problem.

You can buy them on ebay for a reasonable price. I got some even though I am quite small - I just wanted to be able to eat as much as I wanted without the dress getting too snug. For me, it was a waste - they didn't take more than 1/4" of an inch off my waist and having them on/off made no difference in my appearance. I have heard of people losing a couple of inches with them, but surely that would be uncomfortable for long periods of time?

Those inches have to go somewhere. I think spanx definitely help for smoothing things out but you won't lose a dress size. Unless your dress is very elaborate it would probably be better just to have it let out a little.

Spanx By Sara Blakely Product Review

I came across this product review. It outlines some of the benefits and problems with the spanx product. Overall testimonials don't seem all that good. Its worth checking out all the same.

@ Sandra, that is a website for a competing product. Probably not the most unbiased review.

I own spanx and I wear them under most of my formal dresses... However when i wear them I am able to take the all the way off to use the bathroom instead of the little "pee slit" as i call it because i would be scared I would pee on myself.. Other that Look for the Skirt kind of spanx so that you can use the washroom freely without any more complications other than dress

I have two pair of Spanx. THe super dooper sucky in kind. Mine go from underneath my bra to mid thigh. I dont' have a problem with them rolling up or down. I LOVE my Spanx...I don't know about an entire dress size, maybe 1/2 a dress size MAX!

I love my spanx. They do alot to smooth me out. But I agree with FMS I'm not sure about a full pant size.

I don't think Spanx will help you as far as losing a whole dress size. I ended up having to purchase a waist cincher from Frederick's of Hollywood for my gown. You should look into buying a corset from them, or you could also look into buying a Body Magic garment. The Body Magic will take you down at least 2 dress sizes. I don't own one, but a friend of mine is a distributor for them and they really do work!!!!!!

Body Magic is the one I am now looking into. Thanks FutureMrs.BTA! It will be less than the alterations on my gown!
