Spanx VS. Chaffing Cream...which worked better?

Danielle, on April 2, 2015 at 10:58 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 34

Which would you recommend? Any specific brands for either of them?

I've never used chaffing cream, but I do wear Spanx. I wear the Original Footless Body-Shaping Pantyhose. Love them!!

For the logistics of the dress and everything I am just going to put the cream, deodorant spray and baby power down there. Lol I was thinking spanxs but if a have to go I don't want to fight to get them off or back on.

I was a runner and loved body glide for chafing. I'd recommend that.

I decided to ditch the shapewear. They aren't worth the trouble for what a small difference they make. Deodorant Spray will be my friend.

How hot will it be? What style of dress do you have? How easy will it be to go to the bathroom if you wear spanx? I wore pettipants (basically slip shorts, so airy and comfy) and chaffing cream just in case. It was 80 degrees and I would have been miserable in spanx in my multilayered a-line for our outdoor ceremony.

I wear chafing cream all summer long (I tend to live in dresses). I highly recommend Blue Steel Sports (http://www.amazon.com/Blue-Steel-Sports-Anti-Chafe-Cream/dp/B001JK6N3I/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1428063941&sr=8-3&keywords=chafing+cream). It has a bit of a scent - similar to tea tree oil - but it works like a charm! I would also recommend having it with you in case you need to reapply.

Following. I bought spanx to wear under my dress ONLY for the use so my thighs wouldn't rub together. I wore them out under my dress for my bach party and they were a bitch every time I had to go to the bathroom. And I was wearing a short prom dress then- I can't imagine trying to go in my wedding dress.

After this came up on another thread, I went and tried Spanx and Skimmies and all sorts of tights and shorts, and I found them too warm and troublesome just to avoid my usual chafing problems. I'm going to apply a chafing stick instead; both my sister and partner swear they put it on in the morning once and they're fine until they go to bed. Hopefully that settles my fears, won't overheat me and makes it less of a hassle going to the washroom, too.

ETA: I think they have the brand EverStride – Anti Chafing Sport Stick.

I feel like Spanx would be better. I feel like you would have to continuously apply the cream throughout the night.

I'm only wearing spanx for the ceremony. After that, I got a cute pair of boy shorts to rock because I want to be comfortable.

@Jackie... thanks for posting the link to the chafing cream. I was planning on wearing spanx solely for my thighs, but they were miserably hot just in the 15 minutes I had them on... I can't imagine wearing them all day, much less trying to wiggle out of them to go to the bathroom in a mermaid dress.

I have a pair of yoga shorts I've owned for several years as wear under dresses any time I wear them. I've never really felt hot in them. Glad to see others have the same problem and I'm not alone!

Two thumbs up for body glide! You can also use any silicone-based lube. The great thing about that stuff is that it needs to be washed off with soap and water. Moisture alone reactivates it, so when you sweat you stay um, lubricated. Test it out before your wedding day if you are not sure if it will work for you.

I like spanx, but I would recommend trying on a few different styles because some styles (don't remember which) actually make my waist look thicker because they squash my butt and hips too much. I am probably one of the few people who does not wish to minimize my butt, hips, or thighs, only my belly. I also sadly hate Spanx pantyhose; they run too easily for me.

Where does one buy chafing cream? I've never heard of it before and normally wear spanx or yoga shorts under dressed in the summer but I will be wearing a slip with tulle at the bottom for extra volume for my mermaid gown and don't want to wear another layer under it.

@MJBride I know here in Canada, I've seen Body Glide sold at Sportchek. Typically places where runners shop is a good start. You can also buy them online. They look like deodorant sticks, but they're specifically made for chafing. I know my partner and sister slather it on any spots they chafe with different outfits or shoes, and they say it's miraculously changed their lives, haha

    @e=mc2 -- "gusset" if you're fancy lol

I'm super pro-Spanx. This is also TMI, but if you get sweaty they'll also absorb extra moisture, which can be a crucial bonus!

ETA: you could get just the short Spanx, if you're worried about overheating...your thighs would still be covered
