Spanx ... Confused??

Moss Wedding, on May 4, 2015 at 3:42 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 21

Ok, so I have heard a lot of talk about spanx. I personally have never had or worn a pair. I have hips and thighs. I am usually a size 12/14. When I purchase them, do you order the size you are and they are smaller or do you order a size smaller to "hold it all in".

I also have hips and thighs, and they are awesome, but they also suck. I bought the size that I am because they don't REALLY stretch, because they are supposed to be tight to hold everything in. That said, I feel like a sausage when I wear mine (which is hardly ever anymore), but they definitely help keep everything tighter, and looking less bulky. Going pee sucks too.

The size you are. I can't imagine trying to squeeze into something smaller. It would probably cause some unfortunate bulges at the top and bottom.

Spanx main purpose is to smooth really. If your dress is tight already be careful of spanx, as it does add an extra inch to you (think about spanx relaxed, crumbled up in a ball), so definitely do a trial with spanx, i ended up going without it as there was enough structure to my dress to begin with

Get the size you are. I wear mine almost everyday and I wouldn't be able to breathe if I went any smaller

ETA: I wear the kind that look like really high waisted panties.

Try them a few times before you commit to wearing them with your dress. I get super overheated when I wear them.

If you have never worn them, your wedding probs isn't the time to try. They can be super uncomfortable if you aren't used to it. I wear them usually with dresses, but like e= my dress had a lot of structure and I had a longline bra which i do recommend.

I wish there were invisible spanx for arm jiggle... sigh. I think my dress has enough structure I won't need it- the satin is going to bake me anyways and I don't want to feel like a total swamp terrarium under there.

Preach, muscularteeth. The arm jiggle struggle is real.

I bought spanx to wear because I have epicly huge thighs and decided it would be brilliant to squish them into a mermaid dress, despite the fact that I can't wear any type of shorts without my thighs eating them. I tried them on once with my dress, and was so flipping hot there's no way in hell I'm going to wear them. I might not be able to walk, but I won't be so hot. Hopefully the anti-chafe sticks work....

Don't get my wrong, I definitely wear spanx when needed but they make me feel like a roll of buscuits waiting to pop. Definitely try them before you decide to wear them with your dress. I bought mine for my dress and went withot them. They do actually make you slightly bigger (an inch like someone else said) they just smooth you out. I have the kind that are shorts that come up to your bra.

Careful with them... I bulge over the top when I sit down... Might not be the best look if your dress hits that in an awkward area

Lol my dress is super poofy at the bottom and very structured at the top, so I'm just wearing some yoga capris under my dress to prevent chub rub

I have a pair, and they keep everything in great when I'm standing, but if I bend or sit, the tummy part rolls down to be at my waist and no longer keeps anything in. I'm going to go with a corset to keep everything tummywise in place

I was going to wear pretty underthings under my dress, but realized I would be sweating, and, um...yeah...ewww. And Spanx hurt after a few hours, I also feel like a can of biscuits about to bust open! I'm looking for a pair of fun running spandex that don't creep to wear under my dress. Thank god for an a-line gown!

At my second dress fitting, I had put on like 1 or 2 lb only, but it was causing it to pull at the hips a bit. The seamstress said I should go with spanx to smooth out the hip area, and I do wear them a lot under my work dresses, but I just couldn't picture my lace boustie, lace panties, cute little garter, and freaking spanx. I decided to just barely eat for a couple days (bad idea, I know) and now I am down 5 lb again. I will bring the spanx to final fitting tomorrow, but I have my fingers crossed that they won't be necessary.

ETA: My figure is very hip-and-thigh heavy. The same dress that was right on the hips needed over 2 inches taken in at the waist and bust so I totally feel your pain!
