Soup or Salad?

Mob For Keely & Aaron, on July 8, 2019 at 2:14 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 32
We finalize the menu in a week.
We have found that the soup option is 2.20 cheaper than a salad. The choices are corn bisque, watercress soup served with croutons and chilled gazpacho with smoked oil and cucumber. I don’t feel they are fall choices for September 28th but could fit with the entree choices and menu.
Here is the menu so far
Passed apps
tenderloin with brandy peppercorn sauce served over whipped potatoes in martini glass
chicken skewers served with cream cheese and chives
twice baked red potatoes
shrimp cocktail
mushroom cap with zucchini and gouda
1st course
corn bisque, watercress soup, chilled gazpacho with smoked oil and cucumber, field of greens with marinated feta, cherry tomatoes and vinegarette , Cesar with corn bread croutons or wedge salad with bacon, cherry tomatoes or Maytag blue cheese dressing
Main entree options
Mediterranean Chicken with crispy pancetta, turnip purée, parmesean risotto, green beans, cherry tomatoes, artichoke with Prosecco butter and capers.
Braised beef ribs ( not on list and not sure the sides, we requested and they said yes!) or Panko crusted New York Strip (cant remember sides)

Walnut Pesto Angel Hair Pasta

Dessert
Bride and Grooms cake

We want the vegetarian option due to it’s 14.95 and think it is an option that people who are not vegetarians will choose.

So which soup would fit or no soup and get a neutral salad?
Ps the caterers are very gracious, they are making the bride a special menu to help with her health issues.

Has there been a tasting yet? I would want to try those before having them served at the wedding.

This is the tasting but pretty much how we have planned, just stuck on soup or salad.

I would see if you can taste test them, and save the money if you need to! Sometimes those little savings are what can save some worries!

I would think a corn bisque would be perfectly appropriate for a fall wedding.

So as a simple human, I have zero idea what those soups are. As a guest I'd prefer salad. But if those are normal soups where you're from, corn is really. Lol.

I wondered that, I read it can be served warm or chilled and seems imo like a go between for summer and fall.

Corn bisque is definitely fall. I'd pick the corn bisque as a bride and a guest.

If you can save that much with a soup over a salad then I think the corn chowder is a great option, especially in September, assuming it'll be cool where the wedding is being held

I loveee soup but I don't think there is a wrong answer. Both choices sound good and your menu sounds delicious. I would opt for the corn bisque for a fall wedding.

I think more people tend to want a salad rather than a soup. I would lean that way, unless the lower cost helps you stay in budget.

At a wedding I would always prefer salad over soup, and I feel like many people I know would prefer salad too. That said a corn bisque would be the best bet if you must go soup. Even with a corn bisque id probably want salad though !

Corn Bisque and the Gazpacho with smoked oil sound very “fally.”

Lmao I feel the same... I'm reading the choices like its a foreign language haha

I'd say taste test, if you like one go for it but from a guest perspective I'd rather have the salad.

I have been debating about soup also. My instinct is that I rarely see people eating soup? I think the salad will be eaten better. But, if it makes a huge budge difference, go with what works better for the budget!

Corn bisque sounds fall to me. I think depending on your location if it's cold during that time frame id rather go with soup anyhow and it's cheaper so that's a plus
