Sorry another question! Father of the groom as a groomsmen?

Spiffy, on September 8, 2016 at 10:29 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 24

So FH mentioned to me just a little bit ago that he was thinking that he may want to have his dad as a groomsmen. It was news to me that he hasn't even asked the guys who he wants to be his groomsmen if they'd like to do it yet. BUT is this common? I've never heard of the groomsdad being a best man or groomsmen i always thought mother/father of the groom had their own role in a wedding.

I don't think it's necessarily common. I do think it's sweet. In many ceremonies, the father of the groom just sits with his spouse if he has one and watches the show. I believe Jewish ceremonies have both sets of parents up front, though?

I've seen an upswing in including parents and grandparents in bridal parties...so sweet Smiley smile

I wanted my mom to be my MOH but she thought it was silly. So my 8 year old Daughter is my MOH then I have my 6 close friends as BM. I did this because the 6 of us are super close and I could not pick just one to be MOH.

I think it would be so sweet for your FH to do that. It is different and I have never heard anything like it before.

It's pretty common where I'm from for the groom to have his dad as his best man. There really isn't any other "role" the father of the groom needs to be doing that day anyways.

Sounds good to me! Super sweet. The only role I can think of that the FOG has is sit down in a special seat up front and have their names listed in the program? Not anything really specific to ceremonies I have been to.

DH asked his father to be his best man. It was super easy since my mom walked down with DH's grandfather. DH's mom walked him down the aisle. His mom gave him away to me as my dad gave me away to him. It was super sweet. Even though DH is not very close with his father, it was a good way to bring their relationship closer in my opinion.

FH's dad will be a groomsman in our wedding. He means a lot to FH so why not. He'll just walk down the aisle in a different order.

FH is thinking about asking his grandfather to be a groomsman. They are very close and he's probably the best friend that FH has.
