Sooo... I don't know how to dance.

... just add coffee, on June 17, 2013 at 8:39 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 15

I plan on looking up some youtube tutorials to figure out how to dance with FH for our first dance.

But, I've never danced before. Like... at all.

I have ZERO rhythm and have no idea what to do with myself. I kept saying I'd never dance at my wedding but I want to be prepared in case I can't get away from it.

I have no idea what kind of dancing is "in" these days. I don't want to look like an idiot.

Anyone have any youtube vides or anything that they recommend on the subject?

LOL. I know this is a really bizarre request.

But, I promise you, my dancing would be worse than Elaine on Seinfeld.

I broke my wrist swing dancing once for a church choir concert. So, there's that. I kid you not.

Help? lol.

Thanks!

You don't want to do any classes or buy any of those dvds? Side Note: Shaun T's Hip Hop Abs totally not worth it if you wan to learn how to dance.

I don't really have any YT vids to show other than the end of Flashdance. I usually just wiggle my but to the beat of the music! You'll be fine. I'm sure you're not bad at dancing. haha If all else fails make sure you have an open bar and get everyone so drunk they don't notice.

FH and I are going to take ballroom dance lessons. Nothing too fancy, just a basic fox trot. We don't need to be Fred and Ginger we just don't want to dance in a slow circle for 3 minutes.

I thought about doing some kind of ballroom lessons. But, my mom reminded me that my grandparents used to out dancing every night - so they can actually show us how to dance for our first song also. It's not a very upbeat song - Patty Griffin's Heavenly Day. So, we could probably get away with dancing in a circle. lol.

Emmy already said what I was going to. Zumba has really helped me get some better moves, and is usually a lot cheaper than ballroom dance lessons. I've been going every week with my mom.

I've been told ZUmba is great... I could never GO to a class... but I might check out some stuff on youtube.

And I'm really hoping that my grandparents are feeling up to dancing the night away because I would love to see it at our wedding! They are well into their 80's now but when they are feeling up to it, I think they still go dancing sometimes Smiley smile

We took ballroom dance lessons at Fred Astaire for $92 a session, that didn't last only a couple months since we were in there once a week. As others mentioned, that will be so fun with the grandparents! As for the youtube videos, well just drink enough & all is good, it won't matter. Hahaha JK (but that's what I do), but I hope you find something Smiley laugh Good luck hun!

Let me ask a question, do you want guests dancing at your reception?

I understand you're not comfortable with dancing but, assuming you want a dance party, the bride is the number one motivator to get guests on the dance floor. Whether you realize it or not, they will be watching you constantly. If you hit the floor, they'll hit the floor.

Now I know that doesn't help your angst but really, a First Dance is fall-off-the-wagon easy. I'd suggest you buy a few lessons for you and future hubby at a local dance studio. Have them help you with the First Dance, then venture into some open dancing. On the day of, a glass of wine goes a long way toward helping a non-dancing bride ease up and enjoy herself. Believe me, helping your guests to enjoy themselves will be far better than having one of those uncomfortable events where the floor is empty and people are just waiting for cake cutting so they can leave.

    YOU CAN DO IT!

I think it would be super sweet to have your grandparents show you some dance moves! That's wonderful.

I wouldn't worry too much about the first dance, don't do anything fancy if that's not your thing. I feel like it always shows when people are doing something they're not really comfortable with. Just enjoy those moments with your hubby. Smiley smile

As far as the rest of the dancing, just have a few drinks and then you won't care!

Are your BMs dancers? If so, encourage them to get out on the dance floor.

I remember, as a teen, slow dancing with a guy in our group who kept one foot in the same spot and then just circled!

I hate dancing but sucked it up for my DH & my dad. We mostly just waddled in a circle. I'm not sure how we looked in "real life" but our pictures turned out great haha!

The lessons wasn't an investment that DH & I thought would be worth it ..not sure how your FH feels, but by the sound of your post, I can relate a lot to you!

I was going to say if your a drinker have a few drinks and that can get everyone dancing. Andddddd come to think about it, sometimes brides are soooo busy they dont even get to dance. Maybe every now and then you and your new hubby can twirl around or do a silly dance!

We took a few lessons as well as practiced with my parents, because they know how to ballroom dance. You can then practice at home on your own and the more you practice the more comfortable you feel!
