Song requests

Has anyone ever had guests write a song request on their RSVP card? I just read something where the couple did so and I wanted opinions.

My DJ has in his contract that we can't do that.

I could see how playing the music of 50 different people could make for a very disjointed experience.

Right but as the bride and groom you just filter out anything that doesn't quite match the vibe.

We are going for a 90s hip hop dance party. If someone requests "Achy breaky heart", we just aren't passing on the request to the DJ. Any slow song requests we are also passing on tho the DJ for the 5 or 6 slow songs he will play throughout the night.

Any songs that don't quite fit the vibe/ genre will be played during cocktail hour.

I’m going to! I think it’s an awesome idea because if the guest requests a song when it comes on they will get up and dance! I want everyone to dance and have fun so I think it’s a great way to get everyone on the dance floor!

I would advise against it. Some people have crappy taste in music. What if the DJ doesn't play the song someone suggested? People can get fixated on wanting to hear "their song." It also makes people feel like they can just go up to the DJ and request songs. Don't do it. Suggest some songs you both want to hear and let the DJ do his/her job. They know how to get everyone on the dance floor.

We put a song request option on our website. I hope it's helpful because we both have very specific music tastes and neither of us has any idea what new music is out there these days.

Our online rsvp says: You’ll find me on the dance floor when you play [song request].

We may put something like "What song would get you on the dance floor?" With a line. This will prevent people from trying to make requests the day of.
