Song during ceremony

*~WiiFeY~*, on March 11, 2011 at 10:12 AM Posted in Planning 0 6

I had originally said I DIDN'T want a song during our ceremony because I hate that awakward moment where the bride and groom just stand there and smile at each other. Its just not what we wanted. But then I watched my sister's wedding video and I realized that her music was while they lit the unity candle and it wasn't awkward at all because they were actually doing something..

But we're doing a sand ceremony. And the pastor has to talk and explain it. Soo.. How do you work a song into the sand ceremony? Has anyone done this?

We did, we had the DJ play "You & Me" by Lifehouse while we did the sand ceremony. Of course we involved the kids in ours and between the two of us we have 6 kids so we did our sand pouring, then each kid got up to come pour with us, it took awhile! LOL! What I'd do is tell the pastor to explain the sand ceremony before you guys actually start pouring the sand. Then have the DJ start the music and you and FH can start your ceremony. It still won't last the whole song, but it will give more time for the music to play.

Have your pastor explain it before you start pouring the sand and then have the song start after he is done. and the song will play while you pour the sand... my mom did this at her second wedding.

The pastor started talking/ explaining the unity ceremony. About half way through the pianist started playing "Bless the Broken Road" really softly and by the time he finished talking we were starting to pour the wax beads and the song was half way done. When we walked back to the altar the song was coming to a close.

When you have your rehearsal have everyone run through that part so everyone (including the photographer) knows what's going to happen when.

Also make sure that you think about the pictures of the sand ceremony while you figure out where to stand and pour. Like Mrs. Jayjohn says, include the photog in the rehearsal if possible so that you get good pics of the sand ceremony. We didn't think about it at all and because we didn't come around the back of the table most of our pics have only one person facing the camera the other person's back is in the pic and then when the kids came up it totally blocked most of the pouring so you couldn't tell what was going on. So DO PRACTICE that part and think about where the photog will be taking pics so you get good ones!
