Something Old, New, Borrowed, Blue.

Imani, on April 14, 2022 at 2:30 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 3 67
I assume the ‘new’ could potentially be the dress if it’s not handed down. Which mine isn’t. However, how do you choose these? Old jewelry, shoes? Borrowed? Blue?

What are you all doing?

I'm obsessed with blue so I thought about a lot of different options for blue stuff I could wear. I always knew I would have blue shoes. Initially I wanted a blue sash also, then a veil, but it wouldn't have really gone with my dress so I settled for just the shoes. My something new is a bracelet my FMIL got me a few months ago. I didn't plan on wearing jewelry, but I figured why not, it'll make her happy. My something old is actually my dress because I bought it back in 2020 and it's been hanging in a closet since then. Something borrowed was the hardest for me because I didn't want to wear more stuff. My mom has my grandmother's wedding ring in storage, so in the end I decided to ask her for that. It's borrowed, but it's also old. After the wedding, my sister will keep it since I'm too scared of anything happening to it.

    New: Dress, shoes, veil

Old: My mom gave me my grandmothers wedding band. She had super small fingers, so I wore it on my pinky

Borrowed: Last minute my bridesmaids sister let me borrow a $2 bill and it was in the pocket of my dress. I was told it was good luck. Don't know if it's true, but rolled with it

Blue: My bridal party sewed a heart in blue thread on one of the under layers of my dress. It was a nice moment

Super sweet!! I’d be so scared to have it the same day honestly. My anxiety would get the best of me.

😍 I love the sewed in heart! That was really thoughtful. It’s funny because my dad used to give me $2 bills on my birthday as a sign of good luck too. I am in awed that you had pockets on your dress! Where’d you get it from?

Davids Bridal! It was the only dress I tried on with pockets.....funny enough, didn't know it had pocket until after my alterations appointment. I even bought it from the store that day, and for 6 months I didn't know it had pockets. They were deep too, you could put snacks in those puppies. lol

    New - my dress

Old - my mom's veil (45 years old at the time of the wedding)

Borrowed - I borrowed a pin from my mom - she pinned it into my dress pocket (the pin was one she was given by a long-married couple on my parents' 10th anniversary cruise - because part of the idea is to borrow something from a happily married person)

Blue - panties and there was blue on my shoes as well

I did my dress as the new part, the borrowed as a bracelet, and the blue as my garter and the old was supposed to be an old ring i had but i forgot it so the old ended up being my underwear LOL

😅 fair enough with the something old. I guess my something borrowed and blue will be the hardest to find. Or maybe if my sister has a bracelet - I don’t typically wear jewelry like that tho.

My dress will be my something new. My fiancé said he had something for my something old, so it’s a surprise for now lol. My something blue is light blue converse shoes and I have no idea what my something borrowed will be, especially since I’m not a big fan of jewelry.

I am considering converse - but we have nothing blue in our wedding colors. Maybe I can add something blue on it . or blue socks that nobody can see 😅

I got it at David's - I know people have mixed experiences there (and one of my BMs had a *terrible* time with the one near her for her dress) but my experience was nothing but positive Smiley smile The pockets were awesome (and hidden - if you didn't know they were there, you wouldn't find them).

When I was looking for something, she suggested it, and there really was no other choice after that.

That’s awesome! My step mom is making my dress - at first I wanted something that would be detachable. But I’d rather have the pockets lol I might ask her to add them. I went to David’s and had a great experience the lady was super helpful. I knew I wasn’t buying a dress but I just wanted the experience and it was nothing short of amazing.

My something old is my grandma’s beaded clutch, something new is my dress (and accessories - headband and shoe clips), something borrowed is my mom’s veil, and something blue is my sapphire engagement ring.

Something new will be my dress. Otherwise the others I still need to figure out: Something borrowed may be my sister's veil but I may go with something longer.... I think I'm going to go for some kind of blue in my garter. I'm not doing a garter toss but I still want to wear one just for the fun of it. Also have blue sparkly tennis shoes for the reception. But something old and something borrowed are still way up in the air...

Something new is my dress. Have no idea on something borrowed, something old. My something blue is a pair of earrings that have small blue roses.

    My shoes were new.
When I was about 7 my great grand mother gave me one of her brooches. I knew from the time we got engaged that that would be on my bouquet. That was my something old.
Borrowed about a week before my wedding I asked my mom if she had something borrowed and she lent me her diamond earrings made with my other great grand mother’s diamonds. 🥰And blue was a wedding color, lol.

I like the garter ‘blue’ idea. I think it’s really hard to find something borrowed. I am struggling with that one as well. My mom had a backyard wedding and she didn’t have a traditional wedding dress or veil.
