Something Borrowed

LadyMonk, on June 20, 2014 at 3:25 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 16

Is it something you WEAR that is borrowed or can it be something else? My grandma is lending me her silver cake cutting set. -- Anyone know if this counts? Smiley winking

I know there were a bunch of posts a while ago on what to use as your something borrowed, but it's been a while, so I ask: What are you using as your something borrowed?

I believe it should be on you/with you as you marry... my something borrowed is a six pence in my shoe! I gave a friend one for her wedding a couple of years ago, which she knew nothing about, and she is letting me borrow it for my wedding!!!

Yeah, it's usually suppose to be with you when you marry. I borrowed all my jewellery from my aunt-earrings, necklace and bracelet.

Haha ok! Maybe I'll borrow my mom's earrings. Btw, my something old is my grandma's gold watch, something new will be my hairpiece, something blue is my e-ring (tanzanite). Just left with the something borrowed >.<

@Ready: Yay! You're doing the 6 pence! I am too, except the one I have is 20 pence.

@Elle: That's so sweet with the lace Smiley smile

My something old is a handkerchief that my FMIL gave me to pin somewhere in my dress. It was her mothers. My something new is my dress. My blue will be my shoes. And I'm still trying to figured out what my borrowed will be. My sister offered me her veil but that was my borrowed in my first wedding so that's definitely a no go.

In our case, it was the kiddush cup used at the ceremony for the blessing over wine, so it was at the ceremony, but not actually worn/carried. But seriously, it's just a superstition/tradition, so you can decide for yourself how to honor it.

Old: Wearing the necklace I wore to my senior prom.

Blue: Having a wedding dress label made, putting "I Do" in blue rhinestones on the bottom of my shoes.

I borrowed a friend's mother's pearl earrings, but I think the cake cutter sounds like a great idea! You get all the benefit of having a 'special' cake cutter (we just used what the venue had) *without* shelling out $$$. Plus, your grandmother will be *thrilled* to have her used twice.
