Soldering Wedding Bands to Engagement Ring

Blushing Bride, on September 13, 2016 at 5:06 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10

I want to have my two wedding bands (engagement ring between the two) soldered to my engagement ring to prevent any awkward turning of the three rings.

Problem is, my engagement ring is engraved on the inside and I worry soldering my bands to it will ruin the engraving.

Does anyone have an engraved engagement ring with soldered wedding band(s) that didn't harm the engraving?

I would like to see pictures if possible too please.

Thank you!

It shouldn't mess with the engraving if it's done properly, but IF it does, the jeweler should be able to re-engrave it afterwards. Just make sure you point it out and they take note of exactly how your engraving reads so in case the solder does run they can fix it properly. But really, it shouldn't be an issue.

Also- make sure you get them soldered top and bottom. A lot of places will only do bottom, but what happens is your head on your engagement ring knocks on stuff all the time (you don't even notice) and it puts pressure on that one bottom solder spot and it breaks. Top and bottom is a little more expensive, but super secure and much better for the rings!

I apologize - I have no real soldering tips or comments personally - but, my best friend got it done and she loves here - except if there's an issue she has to take both of her rings in to be fixed. She got her wedding band and engagement rings at 2 different stores, so whatever store she takes them to charges her an up charge because one of the rings isn't from them.

The real reason I'm writing is - I love your wedding band - does the other band match?

I have a smilar engagement ring and am trying to figure out what band I want to get. Do you have a picture of them all together?

They will both be the same. And unfortunately I dont have a picture of them together. I'm special ordering the wedding bands from Etsy and just waiting on some final details before ordering.

I have no advice to offer on this since I don't know anything about soldering, but I did want to say that your rings are gorgeous!!!!

It shouldn't since jewelers try their hardest to work around engraving when doing things like this but I'd ask whoever you plan on having do it just in case.

In looking at my soldered bands, it only melded the sides of the bands. There was no melding on the inside. I don't have engraving, but even if I did, it wouldn't have any effect at all on it. You can see the lines of the separate bands on the inside.

FWIW, my husband says the correct term is 'tacking' not 'soldering' cause 'they don't use solder'. When I pointed out they don't use *tacks* either, he had no good response. Smiley sexy

@Zoe a lot of Jewelers do use solder still. We do in my store. If you have a laser welder (which is amazing but an expensive machine) then no solder is used.

Quick question, does doing this void your warranty if you get it done at the jeweler where you purchased? Specifically, my set came from Kay Jewelers. If not, I'm definitely looking into having this done. Great tip about doing both the top and bottom btw!
