S/o- when people think your ring is "too big" or gaudy

The "offended at little ring comments" thread, I thought of this. I adore my ring, but some people sometimes comment about how I seem like a simple styled girl for such a big ring, or that "well I could never pull off a ring like that" with rude tones. I think it's about the right size for my sausage-y fingers. Although most comments are positive, I get agitated with negative ones. Sometimes I feel people look at it and judge me, since sometimes if conversations start later it feels like they often feel I'm materialistic and demanded a ring like this... Or if they know we're students asking/implying that it's fake since "there's no way a student could afford a real ring like that". I adore my ring since my husband picked it out himself and it's gorgeous. Anyone in this same boat? I feel with size you're kind of in a "damned if I do, damned if I don't" situation :/

I love your ring. I think you nailed it. Depends on your hands too. I have very skinny long fingers (size 4.25). So my smaller ring totally was perfect! I'm not offended if someone thinks it's small. I love it and that's all that matters!!

Kind of unrelated, but we may end up wedding band twins! I tried one on exactly like that and FH and I loved it. I still loved another one better he hasn't seen yet, but this one is a top winner so far.

My BFF is in marketing and they learned about the history of the diamond - most of its value comes from marketing and the engagement ring phenomenon. DeBeer's "a diamond is forever" slogan changed everything, greatly upping a diamonds perceived value. A ruby is actually more rare and commonly used in other parts of the world, including Asia, as an engagement ring.

I ended up getting my diamonds as an heirloom, but had I not, I probably would've hinted for another stone to have something more original.

Heeeeeey everybody. I'm glad so many feel the same (I was afraid someone might think I was trying to humble brag lol). It's a sapphire and I love it. I didn't want DH to pay for an expensive diamond just because it's a diamond, and I've always had an affinity for sapphires Smiley smile. I LOVE everyone's rings!

I have quite a large ring, with a very large center stone, not just large but excellent quality. My husband commissioned it. I never get questions about if it is real - it is quite obviously real. What I do get is people grabbing my hand and asking me "just how large is that" or people telling me they would be afraid to wear it because of the chance of robbery, or asking me what my husband does for a living. I can't believe the intrusive, rude questions and comments that strangers feel appropriate to ask.

I am in precisely the same boat. Mine is considered large and I am questioned outside of my social circle it’s authenticity or what my FI does. I never answer I just keep it moving into an entirely different topic. I don’t owe them an explanation. And neither does anyone else no matter how larger or small their ring is.
