So upset with myself - just venting

Ugh I could cry. My FH fathers family is really religious, so we wanted to have some fun with our invite RSVP & give them a nod... so I selected RSVP verbiage that said ___Awe Yay! Drinks are on me! ___I’ll be there in spirit! (Get it drinks, spirit, religion) We just got the invites & they...

We just got the invites & they look great but I’m now super concerned that guest might think it’s a cash bar.

I really can’t justify paying for invites again - and the RSVP cards only are $1.86 per card @ 115 cards adds up.

I’m the odd one out, but I don’t read it as meaning a cash bar. I wouldn’t get the joke, but I would just pretty much read it as “yes come for drinks” or “no”. I wouldn’t stress it too much, I think we are all just so detail oriented and overthinking little things since we are planning weddings, but guests won’t necessarily overthink it.

Lol I was just talking to my manager about this - I work in a very small office & am close enough w/ my colleagues. He said the same, but I think that what I’m going to do is get a detail card created & put some pertinent information including open bar. That way it’s clear.

I don't see what anyone's confused about. It's a joke, maybe a corny one, but doesn't imply cash bar at all to me. Jokes don't travel well via text so just expect some phone calls regardless.

If you have a printer, I bought cardstock and just made my own little "business cards" with Microsoft Word. In our STDs, we put a little "business card" insert mentioning our wedding website and to FH's family that they could join us for breakfast the morning after. It would be cheaper than ordering from somewhere, unless you want them to kind of match your invitations.

I think everyone makes mistakes, and loses money here or there. I thought it was a cash bar based on the first option. I also didn’t get the joke but you know your audience so they may understand. To avoid confusion, I would just take the loss and re do them.

I'm doing something very similar to that. All of the below information is also available online, but I figure it was also a good place to include in detail card.

I added a detail card it reads:

    Details:

The ceremony & reception will both be held at (omitted)

Cocktail hour will immediately follow ceremony.

Open bar reception will immediately follow cocktail hour.

Complimentary valet services as well as golf cart access from parking lot to the main entrance is available.

Guests will be able to arrive up to an hour before the ceremony.

A block of rooms have been reserved at the (omitted)

Hotel shuttle service will be provided an hour before the ceremony & an hour after the ceremony.

A no-host afterparty will be held at the hotel following the wedding at the hotel.

I think you have to change it. The joke doesn’t make sense, it 100% sounds like a cash bar. Keep in mind that spending even $100 on fixing the invitations will be worth it. A lot of people give less if it’s a cash bar, and no one is opening their card and putting in a new check after they get there.
But more importantly than gifts, it’s just not a joke people are going to get and sets the entire wedding off on an odd tone. Definitely think about it.

Thanks for your feedback. I’m going to stick with the reception detail card. I agree w/ you on that people might not give as much if they think it’s a cash bar vs. an open bar, but I think that the detail information will solve that. If someone reads the RSVP card that closely they can read the detail card.

Haha good point!! Anyone that confused will ask. I understand where you’re coming from, I’m second guessing so many of my decisions! I’m sure you’ll be fine, I think your problem just sent me into more second guessing about my own wedding. If they don’t get the joke, who cares? You and your fiancé like it, and that’s what matters 💗

Sorry - never want to make someone else second guess their wedding. I actually like the detail card regardless. It serves the point, but it also clearly indicates things the valet service, hotel & bar - instead of making everyone go to website. If I had to it again, I would include the detail card, but maybe I wouldn't have drank that much coffee before I chose the verbiage - and my corny jokes would have been minimized.

I think it is fine the way it is, if I were to get an RSVP like this I would think that you would be taking care of the drinks. I think that if people are confused they will ask to make sure .. Smiley smile

Thanks! That was also one of the reasons why I chose it, bc I thought it made it clearer that it was an open bar - and everyone asks me this question. Oh well, live & learn.

I don’t get it. Honestly, I would be very confused on what to do with an rsvp worded that way. It makes it sound like it’s a cash bar. It also makes it sound like if they don’t want to pay for the cash bar they’re to decline. I would either reorder rsvp cards or have them rsvp via your wedding website.
