Mrs. A & J
Master December 2014

So the post office ripped my invitation in half....

Mrs. A & J, on September 6, 2014 at 7:58 PM Posted in Planning 1 21

I got this mailed back to me in a plastic wrap that said "we apologize for the inconvenience. We hope you understand".

Fail, post office. Epic fucking fail. I wonder how many more will be coming back like this.

Smiley sad The post office makes me so mad on an almost daily basis. . . but I am conflicted b/c I realize they have wayyy more work than they can handle. . . sorry this happened, though-- hope you have a couple extra so its not too much of a problem.

That sucks! I hope you don't have any others come back that way! We received a friend's Save the Date in a plastic bag too because the post office completely mangled it.

Holy crap! I am worried about mine, they are oversize and overwieght. By the time I add the stamp for RSVP it is seriously $1.50 EACH to mail them. I would be BEYOND pissed!

I bet someone ripped it in half to see if there was a gift card in there! But surprised they sent it back... usually they say it just got lost in the mail. Then again it would have to be a very stupid person if that was the case because & guest gives it away.

I received the save the date to my cousin's wedding all ripped and in a baggie with the pieces from the post office. It was pretty sad and ridiculous what the Post Office can do to mail.

They were totally simple! 5 x 7, 1oz, the straight line back envelope (what's it called.....). Someone told me they received theirs yesterday, and this one returned was one of the farthest they had to travel, so I'm really hoping this was the only one.

I wonder if it was ripped open on purpose....and if so, wow!! Hope nobody stalks my website and crashes our wedding to steal gift cards!

No, there was certainly no offer to repay for postage or anything. The bag had a printed message on it saying "sorry....but this happens...hope you understand".

Did you have them hand cancelled? I wonder if the machinery did it. I doubt a human just ripped it in half on purpose.

I hand cancelled my invitations. The lady at the post office was busy with other customers, but showed me how and handed me the stamper. Took about 15 minutes for my 92 invitations. NBD.

Also...why would someone tear into an invitation for gift cards?

Oh No! That is so rude. I understand why would they return it but then to rip it. I would go back and demand who it did since that wasn't really necessary to rip.

That sucks. It looks like it got ripped by the machine since the stamp isn't canceled, and I doubt that someone who works there would just randomly rip one invitation in half. When you resend it, ask for it to be hand canceled. That way it never touches the machine.

The rip looks straight across like machinery had done it, so I probably wouldn't worry about it being done on purpose. But I would take it with the note and have them put a new stamp without you paying on the new one. It wasn't your fault that this happened and they should take responsibility for it. Then again, it's only like .49 cents and you have to decide if that's worth the trouble haha.

PLEASE READ THIS : MAKE SURE ALL YOUR INVITES ARE STAMPED NON-MACHINABLE!

Seriously ladies - if this stamp is on there, they will be sorted by hand and not by machine.

Nearly the entire mail-handling process is automated, which means machines grab letters through rollers for distribution, so truly a human can't stop it.

If it makes you feel any better, from what my SIL found out prepping for her wedding, approximately 1/100 invitations are likely to either not be delivered or lost. That means that is likely the only one that happened to - it just sucks even if it's just 1.

BTW, if you want to fix the Postal Service, tell Congress to get off their butts and let them put through the reforms they want to - the US postal service is WAY behind other countries in their modernization efforts, but not because they're lazy or inefficient - because Congress constantly vetoes all attempts by the Postmaster General to modernize and create new revenue streams... I work in DC, and let me tell you - this is not a USPS issue. >:-(

A & J...if you walk into the actual post office, you can ask the clerk to hand cancel your invitations, and they will either do it, or in my case, hand you the stamper and you can do it yourself. That saves one level of machinery. I think they may still get sorted by machine, but...
