So Many Decisions

Philippa, on September 24, 2019 at 9:50 AM Posted in Planning 0 7
Hi everyone!
We are getting married in 2021, having a long engagement (2.5 years). Super excited to marry my love, but already looking at the wedding and wondering why there are so many decisions to make! I’ve never really been the kind of girl that dreamt about my wedding, I was more of a tomboy, and so now i keep getting asked questions like: what’s the color scheme? What kind of bouquet & bridesmaid dress styles? But I don’t really care! I feel like I vaguely have a preference (no Halloween colors for me) but no where near strong enough to say definitely this or that.

Does anyone else else feel this way? I’m super far out still but we’re starting to look at venues and my bridesmaids want some decisions made too haha. I think my fiancé is worried I’ll just go with what they like or my family likes but I kinda feel as long as I’m surrounded by the people I love and we have a good time, the rest doesn’t matter. How did y’all choose if it wasn’t something that mattered a lot to you?

I was in the same situation: long engagement (2 years and 2 months) and didn’t dream of a wedding my whole life. I used Pinterest a lot in the beginning. Just saving pictures I liked or decor I thought was pretty. From there, I found common colors and “themes”. It also helped to figure out what I didn’t like as well. And then I was able to search the internet and WW based on colors and the type of vibe I wanted. For my bridesmaids, I just picked a color from Azazie and told them to pick whichever dress they wanted. Azazie will also send fabric swatches so you can see the colors in person which is really great. Hope some of that was helpful!

Try to remember that just because someone asks about something (theme, flowers, bridesmaids, etc.) doesn't mean you need to have those things. Mostly, people are just making conversation. I think you should spend some time really thinking about the things you DO want, then prioritize that and leave the rest.

So, sure, you do need to make decisions, but deciding what you don't want to have is just as important as deciding what you do. And the bonus is that the more you decide not to have, the simpler everything gets. Happy planning!

I'm super organized and I honestly just made a master list. Legit an entire list of everything from decisions to vendors to decor to every little thing I could think of, it was never ending. But, it helped and it even though it was long and overwhelming, towards the end I clung to that list.

You are still so far out, you don't need to decide on a color scheme yet if nothing is coming to you. At this part of the planning you should really narrow down your budget and maybe your venue as well. Those are really the only decisions that need to be made at this point.

I let my bridesmaids choose their color actually. i had two colors i wanted for my wedding colors and i just asked them what they preferred to wear so they voted between the two. when it comes to the color just think about what you like and ask your partner what they like and see if those two colors go well together.

Thanks everyone, I think it’s a really good point that I should make a list of everything I DO care about, and if I have to make decisions for things that don’t matter as much to me, look for inspiration online or see if I can eliminate it. My fiancé and I are already getting rid of a lot of traditional wedding things that to us aren’t important. Hopefully it’ll get easier to pick colors and stuff once we have our venue picked out!

I hadn’t looked at Azazie before, I think this is a great idea to get fabric swatches! All my bridesmaids are in different states one in another country, so this will be awesome to figure out what we all like

I was the same way as you. It took me forever to decide what flowers and colors I wanted. Im getting married September 2020 and I am now jist planning everything lol. We have changed the date so many times but this one finally stuck. It's a process but dont worry you have a while to go love. Most of my stuff i am DIYing myself so feel free to ask if you need any help with anything.
