So....late night snacks, is this actually a thing now?

August skies, on June 23, 2016 at 3:12 PM Posted in Planning 0 40

I've never heard of late night snacks at a wedding until the past few days on WW. Is this a thing now? Am I gonna get side-eyed? Because I am NOT prepped to feed people twice.

We're doing one, but only because it was so cheap ($2 pp). Otherwise we wouldn't have.

People don't expect it, at least I don't think they do. Don't worry Smiley smile

My friend who works at a venue on weekends says a lot of people add like hot pretzels or breakfast sandwiches or something, but she said most go untouched. Between the dinner and dessert, your friends who drink alot will appreciate it but most people won't touch it. Definitely not required I wouldn't worry about it.

I really didn't give a shit if we did one or not. FH was really insistent on it for whatever reason. I told him if he got it all together and figured it out, it was on. I mean really, FH ordered about 10 pizzas between 120 people which wasn't even enough for 1 slice per person. Yet, we had several pizzas left at the end of the night.

I don't expect anyone to feed me a full meal that is often several courses and then offer me even more at 10:30 pm.

This is certainly not a requirement, but many people do it if your wedding is a late afternoon wedding (like 4pm) because your guests will have been drinking and will want some food towards the end of the night.

We won't be doing this since dinner will be at 8:30 and the reception is over at 11:30.

I've seen this before and thought it was a cool idea. However, I am already going to have a popcorn bar so I feel like if I have enough of that, people will just munch on that throughout the night.

I first heard of these when my cousin did it 5 years ago and I thought it was the best thing ever. She had the most delicious pizza delivered at 1030pm. We are doing something as well, most likely a breakfast-at-night option since we love breakfast foods.

Based on when your dinner occurs and how late it plans to last. Even if you order it, you don't have to have enough for everyone. Many guests don't stay super late anyways and I'd say it's not a second meal but a small snack other than dessert.

But we won't be doing that and don't expect it. Our dinner starts at 7:30 and will end at 9:30pm.

Our caterer did a gourmet grilled cheese bar outside on a BBQ. People could choose from a bunch of different cheeses, veggies, bacon, etc. as their toppings. I worried no one would eat it, but people went crazy!! Some people went back multiple times!

Phew! Thanks. I was starting to worry lol. Our ceremony is at 4:30, so I'm actually hoping it'll die down by like 9, I'm 20 but a lot of our guests are older and the people my age aren't really partiers. I've got dancing available to people who want to, but small games at the tables for non dancers (think card games or games that are small and not messy, just to keep people entertained, they aren't scheduled forced games lol). So since it's not gonna be a huge partaayy, I'm hoping it'll end a little earlier, we wont regret not having late night snacks and FH and I can leave for our road trip honeymoon after the wedding!

We may do a late night smores station....but if not something quick and rather cheap we won't be doing anything.

It probably depends on the region. Back home everyone serves late night snacks, but parties go on till 5 a.m. Here in Manitoba they've always been a thing, but the kind of food served varies greatly (from no-brand potato chips, to actual hors d'oeuvres).

If there will be more than 4 hours between dinner and the end of the reception (say, dinner served at 7, and end of the reception at 1), you might want to consider having a late night snack. Veggie trays, chips and dip/salsa would work and won't be too expensive. ETA: Just saw you expect your reception to end around 9. If you serve dinner around 6, you'll be fine without a late night snack.

I feel like it's one of those things that's a nice extra touch, but isn't necessary if it's a strain on your budget.

I've never been to a wedding that had it, but I would probably get pretty excited if they did. It's a nice touch but not at all necessary. You don't need to have one if it's not a priority for you. As long as you're feeding your guests a nice meal with plenty of drinks, they'll be happy.

I'm stuffing my guests with food, they don't need late night snacks on top of it all, I think. You'll get no side eye from me!

Definitely NOT a necessity, just a "nice to have". Usually it's pretty inexpensive, and most caterers I've talked to understand that at that point about half your guests have left for the night, so you only pay for the other half (like $5/person for half of your guest list).

You won't get the side eye, it's not a standard thing. It's a good way to sober up your guests though before they head out for the night.

We are doing it because the ceremony is at 3, so it's going to be a long night with a lot of drinking and I definitely can't make it to midnight without eating again!

We did pizza and it was a big hit. My cousin did stuff like meatballs and wings and hers was pretty popular as well. My brother's wedding was a few months before mine and they didn't do a late night snack but they had a candy bar so people were munching on that later in the evening. If you've got a while between dinner and the end of the reception, it's nice to have something to snack on but certainly not required.

I definitely don't think it's expected but maybe a nice addition if the budget permits! I never heard of them until we went over sample menus with our venue. My FH is pretty set on them. He feels like with an open bar we should have them before people go. We're not totally decided yet. But fried mac and cheese balls and little hamburger sliders do sound good Smiley winking
