I'm Emma! I just joined wedding wire & I am so excited to be able to see everyone's posts with what they're doing with their weddings. So helpful! I'm recently engaged (Jan 5th) to my incredible fiancé who I've been with for 6 years now! I am a nursing major, & will not graduate until 2018, so our wedding is in October. 2018. Nursing school is incredibly stressful & time consuming so I didn't want to spend my first couple years of marriage going through the stress of school. My question is.... When do I start doing everything? I really can't do anything now but save & plan- even though we (possibly) have our venue & photographer picked. In my head I have everything planned & decided but I know it may change. It's definitely beneficial to be able to have all this time to plan but I want to start now! Any advice on when to start or what I could be doing now? Thanks :-)

It'll go by faster than you think! my best friend had a 5 year engagement, but she only spent about two years actively planning. Definitely work out your budget and guest list now, and i dont think its too early to start booking big things like venue!

Congratulations! Your ring is beautiful! We're having a long engagement as well.

Absolutely decide on a budget first, that way you can tailor your guest list to fit that. Everyone says time and time again that the guest list is the best way to cut costs and it's so true. We booked our venue and photographer immediately, if you have your heart set on a venue I'm sure you could book now! We booked ours early enough that the prices for 2017 were not even out yet, so our contract has 2016 prices, same thing with our photographer. We've saved well over $700 between the two now that we see what they're charging for other 2017 weddings, I'm so glad we didn't wait to book.

It's so hard to wait to do things because I'm so excited. I spend a lot of time browsing pinterest and looking up ideas for decor and invites and things like that.. never to early to start getting ideas!

Well, I have just as long as an engagement as you and for similar reasons. I am in law school and graduating this May and taking the Bar Exam in July so I wanted another full year after that. Having a long engagement is the best but also the worst. I started off with budget and guest list. Those are the most important. I've been booking things way too far in advance but it's also a lot stressful that way.

Emma welcome. Smart decision to wait until after nursing school. I remember those days. Ugh! Use this time to decide your budget, guest list, and to get general ideas on pricing. Talk with your FH about your vision for the wedding so you're both on the same page. The vendor tool here is awesome and most vendors have a pricing listed on WW. Or visit their website. We got engaged June 2014, and as you can see have just under a year to go. I've been on here for 600+ days now, and it's so exciting to watch the days count down.
