Dedicated October 2018

So I probably have the longest engagement EVER!

Emma, on March 20, 2016 at 9:17 PM Posted in Planning 0 25

I'm Emma! I just joined wedding wire & I am so excited to be able to see everyone's posts with what they're doing with their weddings. So helpful! I'm recently engaged (Jan 5th) to my incredible fiancé who I've been with for 6 years now! I am a nursing major, & will not graduate until 2018, so our wedding is in October. 2018. Nursing school is incredibly stressful & time consuming so I didn't want to spend my first couple years of marriage going through the stress of school. My question is.... When do I start doing everything? I really can't do anything now but save & plan- even though we (possibly) have our venue & photographer picked. In my head I have everything planned & decided but I know it may change. It's definitely beneficial to be able to have all this time to plan but I want to start now! Any advice on when to start or what I could be doing now? Thanks :-)

Budget and guest list! A $5000 wedding is very different from $20000 so figure out what you can afford. If you want a very lavish wedding for $5000 then it's going to be small intimate like 30 person wedding. If you want a large lavish wedding that'll run you $20-40k depending where you are. Figure out what you can afford and what's most important. To us it was having our large families and friends be apart of it. So we knew we wanted a 150-200 person wedding and had to figure out how to make it work with our budget so we could provide good food and drinks to our guests

Congrats! I'm glad someone else has the same problem as me. We got engaged Christmas eve and aren't getting married until he's out of engineering school in 2018.

Congratulations! I personally like longer engagements, you'll have your pick of vendors and be able to save up more money. I agree with everyone else, start thinking about your budget, then guest list, then research a ton of venues. You won't feel rushed and can take your time really figuring out what you and your fiancé want.

Congrats!! Love the ring! Work on figuring out a budget first and with a longer engagement at least you'll have more time to save up for the wedding.

Congrats! Definitely put your budget together and make sure it's REALISTIC. Then start researching vendors. If you find some you really, really like and are comfortable committing to then you should go ahead and sign contracts if they give you current prices for a wedding two years out! Yes, some vendors do that. Lucky girl you are Smiley smile

From one nurse to another...good choice waiting until school is over. Nursing school and a wedding would be tough!!!

Save and plan! Here are some little things I started doing around 2 years out (if they fit your budget and your tastes won't change):

-Start a workout / healthy skin routine if these are important to you

-Design save the dates and invites (but don't pay to print them just yet as dates and details may change)

    -Buy wedding rings

-Start taking dance lessons if you want to choreograph a first dance (or have 2 left feet like my FH)

-Make a physical planning binder/inspiration board so you have something to show everyone who asks about planning

    -Take engagement pics

-Read as much as you can about budgeting for a wedding and start with that.

-Start a running list of things you might need for your registry (but don't actually register this far out unless someone throws you a shower)

Have fun!! Waiting is tough, but the anticipation is so fun!
