So I bought my dress from Davids Bridal...

Future Mrs Beltran, on April 8, 2014 at 3:50 PM Posted in Planning 0 27

It was on sale for $325 and I love it.. I didnt want to spend more then $500. But I guess I didnt realize all the other stuff that comes with buying a wedding dress.. The total is $650 includes.. Dress, veil, this box that you ship the dress to go get cleaned after wedding, a head piece, and taxes... I am starting to think I shouldnt have got all the other stuff cause a part of me feels like it would have been cheaper if I bought it somewhere else! IM HAVING REGRETS... And I assume I can't return anything.. I still havent got alterations and that she said would be another $200... Since it was the only one in store its a little to big for me not much but the bottom is way to long since Im 4'11!.. Anyway just feeling down about the prices.. but I do love the dress.

Yeah, David's Bridal gets you on all of those other things. That's why I bought my veil and flower crown online. I was about to buy a veil there but my bridesmaid and mom talked some sense into me haha. Smiley smile

I went to a boutique for my dress instead of DB because I went shopping with my friend when she was a bridesmaid and they were not so upfront about "extras". They nailed her on alterations which made her $140 dress suddenly $300. She also bought her shoes there and a hair piece that she later found she could have gotten dupe shoes at Payless for $20 and the hair clip online.

Yea and I got there approval on credit card with no interest for 6 months! So trying to pay it off by that time. I'm thinking of calling to see if I can cancel the order on the veil and return the box that it gets shipped in... Dont think its necessary.. With those two things I could have $275 back!

That's why I got my dress at DB, but will get accessories and alterations elsewhere. They really gouge you on the "extras". But, the fact that you got all that stuff for $650 is actually pretty awesome. There are plenty of people who spend WAY more than that on just the dress. So take comfort in knowing you still got a good deal.

    Congrats!! Where's the pics???

I also got my dress from DB and they do push those extra's on you. But I still spent less than $500 so I was happy. I still have to get alterations but might go somewhere else. And I am ordering my veil on-line.

I didn't get that box because I felt like it was a waste of money. I would try to return it if possible.

I can sympathize on being 4'11" LOL! I swim in most gowns. I'd try to return all the extra stuff. They'll probably convince you that you need them but stand your ground!

I actually think David's accessories are final sale.. so you may have a tough time there depending. Worth a shot, but if not, at least you are done and have everything bought!! Smiley smile I actually don't think $650 for what you got is TOO bad.

Definitely look around for alterations. I cannot say I have ever had any at DB's but have always found them more reasonable not at places that sell dresses. My dress (not DB) I was told was almost 800 to alter and I got it for almost half somewhere else!

I would definitely get alterations elsewhere. I took my lace/beaded dress to an old time yet big name seamstress and needed the bustle and it taken in. She only charged me $108 with tax and DB wanted to charge over $300. Plus she only takes a week to finish it and DB takes much longer.

I did order my shoes with a coupon from DB and my mom bought the headpiece I fell in love with even though I told her it was too much!

They really get you though and it is so hard not to get caught up in it all and make purchases in the moment. Im sure a lot of brides have purchase regret lol

What Jessica said, take it elsewhere to get it altered. I find most bridal shops charge more than a seamstress with her own business.

Thanks for the advise. I'm going dress shopping at DB in 2 weeks. I found a dress I love somewhere else but 1362 without tax. Hoping I fall in love with something cheaper at DB.

If you ordered the accessories and they have not arrived yet, you should be able to cancel the order.

The experiences I have had with DB has been good so far. I ordered a dress, changed my mind, brought it back, exchange it for another color, changed mind on sash and they gave me a refund on sash, no quetions asked.

Try to return the stuff if you can, but if you can't, it's a learning experience. However, definitely go somewhere else for alterations. I just went for my fitting this weekend at the independent boutique I bought my dress at, and I was talking to the seamstress. She said she was an alterations manager at DB, and she actually took a pay cut to work at this boutique because DB was so awful. Tons of bad stuff (they gave her way too much to do, told her to skimp on things, refused to hire her any help to get stuff done on time), but specifically she couldn't take them telling her to make stuff up to alter, and lying about the prices. They told her that her "sales" weren't good enough and that she should tell people they need more points on the bustle than necessary, or tell them that they need the hem altered when it didn't need it or maybe say the bodice doesn't fit right when it did. However, she said for people bring their dresses elsewhere, they should make sure that the person doing the alterations specializes in wedding dresses- she said that in school they really don't go over wedding dresses, so it's important to find someone experienced in it, especially since wedding dresses are much more complicated than regular clothes.

BTW, my alterations cost $20 :-) $5 for the bustle and $15 for securing the bodice (the material inside moved around some), and for putting a wire in the top of the bodice to improve the shape. Of course, you spent less for all the stuff you got than I did on just my dress.

You were sold on the extras. I ordered mine online and spent under $500 for two dresses. I found a local seamstress who I imagine will cost significantly less than having them altered at David's. I am paying the vig for the dress bags and crystal cap sleeves. Other than that, they're not getting a dime out of me.
