So last year we went to a bridal expo that this DJ was hosting. We had gone to his booth but didnt get a chance to speak w him personally but we loved his personality on stage! When I got home I looked over his prices and almost died when I saw what he charges. I was looking at (MAX) paying half the price he wanted. Im not looking anything special just the basics for 5 hrs of music. I was bummed, got over it. Got distracted w the baby news. Then started working on the wedding again. Came across his website and saw he had a promo going. The price was down to what I was willing to max out. I got so excited!!! Told FH to get in touch right away and get it going since it ends today. Well he finally talked to him and he has other djs that work under him and for that price you get one of them. He doesnt leave the house for under $2500. Are you kidding me?!?! I mean I think he would of made a great vendor to our current list. But I will not pay that for a personality. What are you paying?

Aretina, Don't tell people on public forums who your DJ is. It's very nice that your DJ want's to give you free stuff, however what most people don't know even DJ's is that giving away CD's with copyrighted music is illegal, with very stiff penalties.

PMEDJ : I understand this guy is steak and not kraft mac n cheese. But you figure if I don't need most of what's is being offered in the $2500 package (in order to have him) I lose out in having him unless I still want to pay $2500. My venue offers uplighting etc already. So why pay for things I'm not getting/using? Most vendors work with you to customize your needs. He is the owner of the company so its not like he can't do that.

So I guess what I'm saying is even if I go w BMW w/o the leather seats, moon roof and undercoating why am I paying the same price. Do you know many dealers that do that? Would you do that to your customers?

I actually have to disagree with you PMEDJ. price does not make the vendor better. yes, some higher priced vendors are great and offer many services, however some people do their research and still choose the cheaper one because they like them better. when i chose my vendors i did not choose for price, i chose who offered what I was looking for, who i liked best personality-wise, and who had great reviews. i mean, honestly, even if i had the money for the BMW, i would still choose my Ford. I have driven both, and while the BMW offers some features my ford does not, the Ford suits my needs, is very comfortable, reliable, great on gas mileage, is cheaper to repair should anything happen, and has excellent features, etc.

Kara P. I completely agree with you. I personally do not operate like that. I don't base my price on commodities or tools I use. My price is based on my abilities, skill, talent, to help create an amazing celebration. Most of my clients don't need up lighting, lighted monogram, or a montage. (The only extra services I have available for clients that want it.) Yet it's not something they need. I would never push it on clients, because that's not what a wedding is about. I would keep looking for a wedding DJ/MC that is more interested & cares about the details of your wedding and is willing to cater it to your style. Your entertainment should be a reflection of you, your DJ should understand that, and represent you in that way. To answer your question; Never.

Quote: "price does not make the vendor better" Heidi: Your absolutely right too. I never said that. Even BMW has lemons. I am not the highest priced wedding DJ in my area. Some DJ's charge more when they feel the need to bring much more equipment needed, or if they have outside offices, a big advertising budget, and overhead. That does not necessarily mean they are better. For the most part DJ's only charge what they believe they are worth, if they feel like they are worth more they would charge more. You hired your DJ the right way, I do not disagree with anything you stated.

Mine does those services as "extras" as well. i originally wanted up lighting and a monogram, but i'm having a structure with weeping greenery built around the dance floor and i feel the monogram may be unnecessary now. i decided not to have him do the up lights because my coordinator does them for the same cost.

Hypothetically speaking: At the end of your wedding night you have a great time, everything flowed smoothly, your guests are saying goodbye, thanking you for inviting them, and telling you they had the best time, and the most fun they have ever had at any wedding. How must is that worth to you? What amount would you pay if you were guaranteed this would happen? Entertainment is what drives a wedding reception. "The Fun" is what guests remember the most about a reception years later. It really boils down to what is most important to you, and how you want your wedding day to be remembered.
