So apparently State Farm doesn't offer Wedding Insurance

AlexisM082, on February 2, 2015 at 9:45 PM Posted in Planning 0 8

Ever since seeing the posts about venues closing down, photographers being flaky, and videographers dodging footage questions, FH and I have been focusing on where to get wedding insurance. I had seen someone mention State Farm. Well, we called our agent today and he said they might be able to provide an extension on a home owners policy for an event, but it would be limited to our property. Specifically, the land we live on. I'm not a huge fan of our agent, so I sent a text to my cousin in Chicago who's not only a wedding planner, but her husband owns his own State Farm agency. It's a no go. She suggested Markel, WedSafe, or WedSure. She said to call and talk to them about our biggest concerns and they'll set up a policy for us. She estimated we'll be paying at least $400 for the top 3 things we are worried about. Weather, flaking vendors, and the venue closing. Ugh....

We paid $350 for our wedding insurance. I was miffed about the cost at first. It was worth it because if a vendor had flaked or something happened to the venue, we could've been out a lot more money.

The only vendor we're really worried about is the photographer. She's really cool to actually work with. Beautiful pictures. Great personality. But when you set a date with her or email her she's a complete flake. She only does this photography thing for fun. She doesn't actually need the money since her husband is loaded, but sometimes I want to ask her why does she even bother shooting weddings if she really doesn't care?

Traveler's Insurance also offers wedding insurance. I am in the process of researching different wedding insurance company's too since my venue requires it.

Travelers's definitely offers wedding insurance including coverage for gifts. It is pricey though $500 ish.

I know! I called my State Farm agent too about event liability insurance, I couldn't belive they don't offer it. Our venue requires we get liability because we're providing our own alcohol. They suggested the event planner dot com, so we went with that for like a hundred bucks.

We're required to have liability too. When it's not so insane at work, I'll make a few phone calls to get quotes.

This is something I have to look into also. I had heard that state farm does not cover it but wanted to talk to them to make sure. :-( I think there is one other insurance company in my town. I want to try them first before going the online route.
