Snapfish books are very nice!

Cabell, on June 5, 2010 at 11:49 PM Posted in Planning 0 10

Promised update: on Thursday, we received our Snapfish wedding albums that we made with the wedding photos we'd uploaded to Flickr, & they are really nice for the price.

Admittedly, there are cons: the paper could be a LITTLE sturdier, the design interface could give you a better idea of how close to the binding you want to crop your images, the printing on the cover itself is not resizable & a little small for my taste.

But pros! Photo print quality is very good, they have a TON of page designs/backgrounds to use & lots of different book sizes/dimensions, you can organize your photos on the page in a lot of different ways (with or w/o captions), & it's VERY hard to beat a 32-page bound photo book for $30 (plus tax & shipping). (You can have as many pages as you want--it's just $2/two pages after the first 20.)

FH & I agree that our parents will really love these, and I'm very glad we ordered an extra to keep. Use code FLICKRBOOK for 30% off at checkout.

I did my engagement photo book on Snapfish and I made photo books for my parents and family on MyPublisher and Blurb. I recently wrote a series of posts on all things wedding photo related that you may be interested in. The photo at the top is the book I did with Snapfish.

Heavnsnt - I haven't tried Shutterfly yet, but I got a coupon for a recent promo that I plan to try so I can post a review.

Here's a look at the photo books I did using a number of different photo book publishers:

Hope you'll find the info helpful and congrats on your weddings. It's almost 1 year for me and the hub!

That's really useful--thanks for the links (and the hard work of writing up detailed comparisons)!

Thanks Cabell, I've been wondering who to use myself. I had heard that shutterfly was good and then some people (mainly photogs) said that mpix.com was pretty good, better quality and of course higher price but still better product if you're willing to spend the money.

MDLS: ba's review came down pretty strongly in favor of blurb over mpix--while she did feel that mpix had slightly better print/paper quality, she said the binding was MUCH worse, and the total cost was a lot higher. It does look from her photos like the print quality is nicer, though, which obviously would be worth some money if the binding were acceptable.

    LovelyQ: I PM'd you!

Cabell, I'm glad that you're getting some good info from it! I happened to see another review, that said the 5x5 Mpix book in particular had binding issues (perhaps due to its small size), so I should clarify that what I said about the binding being cracked may not apply to a larger size. MDLS, depending on what type of book you plan to do, there are so many choices out there. Mpix's assembled albums do look very nice though and are printed on actual photo paper. Personally I'm planning to try AdoramaPix and Picaboo. AdoramaPix also prints on photo paper & has a unique binding that allows the book to lay flat, plus no seam down the middle. Picaboo also has a new lay flat book as well. The lay flat books will look closer to "professional" books. They will likely cost more than Blurb or Shutterfly, but will not be as expensive as the "high end" books.

Mariel: PM stands for "Private Message". Sometimes you see "DM" for "Direct Message," but I think the former is more common.

Update: Our parents got them yesterday, and MIL in particular LOVED the book. I got a thank-you text that was so long and enthusiastic it got auto-split into two parts. :p My parents said they liked it, too, when I called to talk to them--they weren't as enthusiastic but that's kind of standard.
