Snack ideas for the table? We are having a dinner buffet...

Aimee, on November 1, 2012 at 5:09 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 6

I would appreciate any ideas for snacks to have on the guests' tables. I would prefer not to have an appetizer table, since we are having a buffet dinner.

If you mean like a tray of something in the middle of the table, I would do fruits and cheese tray. It is simple and you can dress it up.

If you mean a mixture of things, you can always do the mini pigs in a blanket, olives, grapes, mini quiche, cheese platter, or do some pastries that you can put on a fancy pastry plate...

I am guessing you might call it a cocktail hour... just something to snack on between the ceremony and the wedding party arriving at the reception after pictures. It is an open bar all night, so I want my guests to have something to snack on later in the evening as well.

Light appetizers that don't require heating. For example, I have seen things like a bowl of mixed nuts on each table. I was also thinking maybe pretzels or crackers with dips/spreads like you would find in jars at gourmet food stores. I can't decide if I should have these on each table or just make a dedicated table for light appetizers/snacks... any thoughts?

    I found this somewhere too:

"Small bites, such as marinated olives, spiced nuts, edamame, and warm naan triangles can be placed on tables so guests can feast at their leisure."

I like the idea of a cheese platter and grapes, Natalie!

I kind of like the idea of snacks on the table. But then again I like to eat! you would have to figure out how it would work with the centerpieces. I have also been to banquets where there is an appetizer at your plate when you sit down.

Fruit with yogurt dip, veggies with dip, naan/pita with hummus... Pretzels, nuts, cheese/crackers may read a little too simple, you could always make them a little nicer like chocolate dipped pretzel rods, seasoned/sugared nuts, a cheeseball rolled in almonds, etc.

I really like the idea if having appetizers at the table Smiley smile

It’s traditional in my family/culture to have snacks on the table before the dinner. However, the reception is in a different location from the ceremony, and the ceremony is usually closer to the morning. We usually have mini pretzels, trail mix, pastel mints (or any kind of mint, which is nice because they can munch on those after dinner and not have bad breath all night). For us, weddings tend to have a bunch of kids and the table snacks are wonderful for them because they usually won’t like the appetizers at cocktail hour, but love the table snacks because they are a bit more unique than they usually get to have, but still kid friendly.
