Small wedding.... advise?

Rachel, on July 7, 2019 at 7:12 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 1 8

Hello! I'm have a VERY small family and close friends only wedding in the Dallas area in January 2020. I'm having a hard time planning it, because I'm honestly not sure exactly how to have a wedding that small. It seems a little silly to hire a DJ and such for such an intimate wedding. I was thinking of doing a ceremony at a small venue, and then having a reception dinner at a nice restaurant. Does anyone have any thoughts? I'm also not sure how to do fun things for the guest, or how to handle music. Any suggestions?

I’ve been to several small weddings (fewer than 50 guests) and ours had 15. No DJ /dancing needed. Every one had a soloist for the ceremony and background music during dinner. Drinks, dinner & socializing was plenty to keep everyone having fun!

Dinner at a nice restaurant in a private room is a great idea! Delicious food & drinks, and nice tables/chairs already provided. 😊

Congratulations on your engagement Rachel! Welcome to the WeddingWire community!

You can absolutely have a small wedding like you described. How many guests are you thinking of inviting?

Are there any restaurants in your area that have private dining rooms that would allow you to have a bit of privacy if you wanted to do some special dances or speeches without other restaurant guests watch on?

With a Spotify Premium account, you would definitely be able to create your own wedding playlist or even a few playlists that you could swap between for different moments.

As long as your guests have good food and music, you don’t need to worry about ‘fun things’ for them to do, they will enjoy being together for such a special occasion, mingling and chatting.

That is what we are doing! We are having a small wedding and after the ceremony we rented out a big room at an italian restaurant that we still get to decorate and set up. No DJ, but they do allow you to play music in the background.

    Perfect for us!

We are having a small wedding of 20 people in Sept 2019 - We are getting married at a Bed and Breakfast. We are having the ceremony outside (as long as it's not raining) in front of a river - If the weather is bad we will get married inside, in front of a beautiful fireplace. We will have a cocktail hour and then a family style dinner - we will all sit at one long table. Following that, we will have desserts and coffee and a small cake for us to cut. We will spend the night at the B&B along with a few of our guests. The following morning we will do a brunch.

For music, we are having our friends sing our first dance song. Other than that, we just have a Spotify playlist that will play in the background.

Just remember to do whatever you want - don't let other people sway your decisions. This is your wedding. Good luck and happy planning Smiley smile
