Small engagement rings

Mallory, on July 5, 2021 at 11:13 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 16

I'm wondering if anyone else on here has a small engagement ring with no plans to upgrade as well? I love love all the bling and the big rocks, but at least where I'm from that's nowhere near the norm. Most people I see and know have modest rings. So I'd love to see some ring porn of other people's modest sparklies as well! Mine is a .2ct solitaire with knife's edge setting in 14k white gold.

It's very pretty! I honestly don't believe size is what makes an engagement ring beautiful - it is the story behind it, how well the style matches that of the wearer, etc!

I also think it's so interesting what different areas and cultures consider the norm. I would say my ring is roughly similar in size to my friends and colleagues - and it appears that where I live (a major city in Australia) the norm is a little bigger than where you live - probably 1.2-1.5 kt. But even though my friends etc all have roughly similar-sized stones there's likely to be quite a price difference between what each of us has, so size isn't really an indicator of anything much at all.

So. Tell us more about your ring - did you pick it out yourself? It definitely looks bigger than .2kt!

I’m not sure what you constitute as “small” under a carat? I have a .70 carat oval, two side stones, 14k white gold. I don’t know if there is a “norm” where I’m from, maybe 1- 1/.5 carat average. My ring is def on the daintier side from other rings I’ve seen and that’s okay! My ring is perfect for the size of my hand! Your ring is beautiful!

It’s so interesting to me how sizes vary in different parts of the world! Ahh so cool! I would say in my area about .5 ct and down is the norm. My girlfriend has the biggest of anyone I know and it’s about a 1.2 ct pear absolutely gorgeous! My now husband and I picked it out together. It is almost identical to my late grandmothers engagement ring so I knew as soon as I saw it that it was the one for me ☺️.

Mine is on the smaller side from what I've been hearing people around me have been getting/wanted! But I like it smaller...I'm not a big jewelry person and my taste is very simple, so I feel like this fits really well with that. Mine is a 0.5 ct princess cut.

He proposed to me with his grandmothers ring. I would never upgrade because I feel a man that gives you a family heirloom like his grandmothers ring is worth more than any diamond in the store. Plus I can't wear jewelry specially if it has a diamond or gems in it at my job. So he knew that I think buying an expensive big diamond I'll never wear in my opinion is such a waste of money.

Dude it's actually more practical having small and plain rings.

    1. i don't even wear my engagement ring on a daily basis at all. i only wear it when i feel fancy or want to get dressy because it's kind of impractical for me when i swim, work out, etc.

    2. my wedding band is plain and that's what i wear. it's literally just plain silver and as thin as i could get it and that's it haha. i don't believe they need to be fancy either because when it's being worn everyday and goes thru a lot, i would rather it be durable.

I actually preferred a delicate diamond band for my engagement ring, instead of solitaire. I always knew I’d want something understated. Girls always have me a hard time for it and I worried I would regret it, but 8 months into engaged life and I still love it Smiley smile Engagement rings are so personal to each girl, you’re the one that is going to have to wear it everyday, stick to what you love!

I love my ring it's small but it means so much here is the story behind it,

We went ring browsing and I came across this set I loved the way it looked in the set and I cried when I tried it on, our jeweler told us that these rings were actually separate however they look so good together so they decided to make it a set, just like us we are opposite however when we come together we fit so perfectly. he proposed to me with my engagement ring however I was able to see the whole set together and in my eyes, it looks stunning, I wouldn't trade it for anything and have no desire to upgrade even though my fiance thinks I deserve one

Your ring is so so beautiful! I love that the band is so different but fits so well!! What ct size is the center diamond out of curiosity? I hope that's not rude to ask! It looks similarly sized to mine and I've been considering a different band but a little nervous to make the jump!

Mine is fairly small. I don’t like big and bulky. I love the twist of the heart shape too.

My e-ring is 1/2 carat and the perfect size for me, especially if its something I am expected to wear more than just on the rare occasion. Never considered getting anything else!

I honestly didn’t want a big ring! Im 5’1” and just felt like a huge rock would look to flashy on my tiny fingers. And it sparkles more than a lot of the bigger diamonds I’ve seen. I’m absolutely in love with my ring

Found this post late, but thank you so much for this!

Mine is considered average for the US and I always felt it was on the bigger side, but a lot of my close friends said its too small and I should have asked for a 2 kt or bigger! Being the anxious person I am, it really hit me harder than I thought and even though I love my engagement ring, I felt that mine wasn't "good enough".

After reading these posts, it really does remind me of my original thought behind a ring. That it is the person behind it and not the size. My FH bought me a ring that was beautiful and he knew not to spend a fortune on it because once I'm married I'm strictly wearing my band and/or a silicone band at work so a big ring wasn't practical (i'm a nurse). I would have said yes to my FH if he asked with a ring pop, but society these days really makes it out that bigger means more love (and in no way am I saying anything bad about bigger kt! just think we should be happy with what we wanted for a ring, not what society says we should have).

But, OP, your ring is beautiful and everyone's ring suits them perfectly!!!
