Slideshows still cool?

CarrieLynn, on December 15, 2017 at 9:28 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 21

FH and I have been together for 5 years. Our wedding is tomorrow and our rehearsal dinner is tonight. I put together a slideshow of pics to play on repeat during the rehearsal dinner. It's a pretty good mix of baby pics, epics, and pics we've taken with friends and family along the way. There's no sound or anything, just about 15 minutes worth that will cycle over and over. Is this still a cool thing to do? Or should I skip it and just get a photo book made for us?

    Personally, I love them. I'm the weirdo that stands near it all night making sure I've seen every picture!

    I usually see them in the background, not as a, "now we're going to watch the slideshow!" deal

    Background, yes. Not a scheduled time slot.

    I think it's a good idea for a rehearsal dinner, but it shouldn't be at the wedding. We went to a wedding where they had like a 10 minute slideshow of individual pictures and couple pictures, and it just didn't feel right to play that during the reception.

    Background is what I'm going for. It'll be projected onto a wall, but no big presentation, no sound.

    There's a tv screen mounted at my venue and we will be running a slideshow on a loop all night. The pics will be wedding pictures of all of our family and close friends. It's a subtle way to honor their marriages and our grandparents who have passed away.

    Background at a rehearsal dinner yes. Front and center - please no. I had to endure that at my first husband's nephew's wedding. Honest to Pete that thing went on and on.....thank goodness it stopped (the tape broke or something) as I was like Geez.....I get it!

    Edited to add: our reception space (event room at a restaurant) had a big screen for that use. Being my hubby and I met as little kids I think people were expecting a slideshow of us as little ones. We were both......no. Just not our thing!

    I think they're fun as long as it's not played at a wedding. Rehearsal or shower would be fine!

    I think as long as it's not front and center it's cute. So go for it!

    @Spaghetti I love that idea!

    Never saw a slideshow at a shower and I've been to only one wedding where the couple didn't have one. I'm not doing it because everyone in that room knows what either I or FH looked like as kids and what we look like now. It's a waste of money for me.

    Idk if it'll work better at a rehearsal but my friend did a slideshow at her wedding and NOBODY watched. Someone actually commandeered the laptop and put the game on. Rude on the guests part but people actually started watching

    We won't play it at the wedding. I will be on a wall at the rehearsal, but not as a 'hey, everyone look over here for 15 minutes' thing. I just put a bunch of pics on a flash drive and hit the slideshow button, so it was $0 and it's free to use the projector, so why not? From what I've read, I'm good to go Smiley smile thank you all for your help!

    I made a slideshow for my brother and his wife when they got married. I was the MOH. We watched it at the rehersal dinner while everyone ate. They all really loved it! I even got requests to do it for one of the couples who were there. I think if this is something you want to do then do it. Especially if it's just in the background. I like to see pictures of people growing up and when they've been together for so long.
