Slideshow and first dance

Laura M, on April 26, 2014 at 1:08 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 7

So i just found out there is going to be a slideshow of us for the wedding, was supposed to be a surprise but my family sucks at those apparently lol. It's my grandpas surprise which is so thoughtful and he's great at making things like that! Anyway would it be okay to have it played during our first dance? I rather people watch that than us to be honest, not a fan of being the centre of attention and our song is a good 5 minutes long which is a long time to watch a couple spin in circles lol. Would that be weird? distracting? what are your thoughts?

I wouldn't do them at the same time. Ask your dj to fade it out after 2.5 minutes; that's plenty. Could you show it somewhere on a loop during the cocktail hour?

What about having it play during dinner? I don't think it should be during the first dance but I really don't like slide shows at weddings so I'm not much help haha

I'm having a slideshow. I think it's a good idea to play it on continuous loop during the cocktail hour and maybe again another time during dinner as Wendy mentioned.

One wedding I went to played it as the bridal party was processing in and I thought it was too much because I didn't know where to look/focus!

M&M makes a good point, if you did a slide show while having your first dance people won't know if they should be watching the slide show OR your dance. If you aren't a fan of being "on show" during your first dance, maybe you could have your wedding party join you about half way through the song so that at least some people will be looking at the other dancers (plus you won't have to have a separate wedding party dance)

Laura, what did you end up deciding on for your wedding?? I'm planning to play my slideshow during my first dance but I've only been able to find two posts about it and both have negative responses... I don't want to be doing something that might confuse my guests or make them uncomfortable.

I was hoping having the videos and photos in the background would even make the dance more romantic.

Too distracting. People would not get to fully appreciate either one. The video would be very nice on a table off to the side, where people can stand or sit and watch during cocktail hour, and again during general dancing. People watching like to comment to each other. Awful to grampa to take his hard work and sentimental show, and have it lost in too much happening at once.
