Sleeping apart when sick

Colleen, on August 12, 2019 at 7:11 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 24
Does anyone sleep apart when they are sick. I know we do cause I get bad migraines to where movement and any sounds hurt so bad. Now from a hysterectomy I had 10 months ago the muscles are being strange in my stomach. Very tender to movement going bathroom a lot. So I am not sure what will happen tonight.

We used to have a spare bed and if I was sick he'd sleep in it. We don't have it anymore and neither of us has been sick since (knock on wood). He can't really miss work, so probably he would sleep on the couch if I'm wasn't feeling well.

I honestly never saw this as an option. When we are both sick we sleep next to each other as usual and we take care of each other. We do avoid kissing and we both take medication to avoid getting sick. We are both heavy sleepers so no issue there either.

I'm sorry, and hope you get to feeling better. There's not shame in sleeping apart if needed. You have to take care of yourself!

I get terrible migraines, so I totally understand. We still sleep together, but mostly because we don’t have a spare bed. But if it helps you feel better, you should absolutely spend the night apart!

We both have chronic migraine and we still sleep together even on bad days! I find that sleeping with him is actually helpful because he knows what to do to help any little bit that he can, and I do the same for him. I think it all depends on what you are comfortable with, though

We still sleep together when we’re sick but our circumstances are a bit unusual. FH is has a disability so he’s not comfortable sleeping alone in case he needs help. I don’t think I’d want to sleep alone either though.

We havent run into this yet. But some of our friends do. Honestly, I probably will too.
Hope you get your stomach pains sorted out! That doesn't seem normal 10 months out. I'm 18 months out, and havent had any discomfort since 3 months. So please make sure you mention it to your dr!

I’m sick right now and he’s still in the bed with me. He doesn’t mind because he never gets sick but I totally see what you mean about movement and noice. He gets migraines and I am a statue. And he’s a heavy sleeper but me being sick is tough when he falls asleep so fast and I’m up coughing. Maybe once we have a spare room but I think my sleep and his might be worse. I think if either of us got the flu then we would do something because nobody wants that 😂

I try to sleep in a different place when he is sick cause I usually get sick after him but he really doesn’t care about sleeping in the bed with me being sick. The only thing that annoys me is that I tell him to sleep somewhere else so he doesn’t get sick and he still sleeps with me and when he does get sick, he complains so much like he is dying.

Yes. I don't like being sick and I don't want her to get sick if it's spreadable. If it's not spreadable then same room is fine but no phones or tv.

I get really bad migraines and my FH just lets me have the bedroom until he's ready for bed then he snuggles up and sleeps. I mean he checks on me and gets me anything I need and takes care of our cat and dog (they both like to be attached to me).

It depends on how sick I am.

We do avoid kissing on the mouth, and he's a very good nurse. Because our schedules are opposite, I often go to bed as he's getting up. However, when I'm sick, I sometimes just stay on the couch, so that my germs don't get on the bed.

Yes, if one of us is sick with something contagious (cold, flu, strep, etc.). I have a bad immune system, and my husband is a lineman and cant afford to be sick on the job.

If I'm up sneezing or blowing my nose a lot, I will sleep on couch so I don't wake FH. He's been snoring a lot lately so I can't sleep and will go then too. I have to do it quietly though or he will take the couch.

Fiance will sleep in the office when he gets a migraine. If I'm sick he lets me have the bed because I'm a very light sleeper
