Skipping Wedding Programs

DC Bride 2014, on June 15, 2014 at 3:11 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 28

I'm really thinking about not ordering/making wedding programs. Our ceremony will be short (under 30 mins), not in a church, and no one other than the officiant will be speaking during the ceremony. We are also running low on money at this point and I feel like this would be a cost saver for us. Has anyone else skipped programs or plan to?

Thanks!

I don't plan to use them. To be honest I don't remember a wedding I have been to with them. And if they had them, I don't remember. Save your money!

Definitely not a requirement. We have a complicated church ceremony, so we're doing them, but they're printed up for free by the church.

I wasn't going to, but then worried since our short ceremony is outside it may be hot like it was last year. So were doing fan programs I found on amazon for $9.95 for 25, and just doing a simple monogram and listing the bridal party. If not for the weather I would have skipped them altogether.

Most of my weddings don't have them.

I think it's fine if you don't have them. The only reason we're doing them is because some things won't be in English and we'll have translations on ours.

We will be doing them. However they will be pretty simple and are not going to be much in regards to cost when compared to the rest of the wedding.

Absolutely skip them. I'd never heard of them before I came to this website, so I'd say they became popular in the past 10 years or so (last wedding I attended).

When we finalized our budget, programs were the first to go.

Every eedding I've been to had them. I did one cheap (used power point with a faded photo of us as background) that listed ceremony, bridal party, and "what's next section". I printed 150 for about $100 but that was because I used linen paper and color ink. I was surprised that most people kept them and several out of town family asked for additional....

I'm not having programs, I just don't see the need for them. It's a money waste.

We're doing the same. 15 minute ceremony with only the officiant speaking. People will just toss the programs before they can read them.

I'm going to be printing ours on textured cardstock at home. We had originally planned to buy them, but then time got too short and I hadn't heard back from our musician. I figured since we're having a Catholic ceremony and FH's family isn't Catholic that we should probably have them to people know what's going on. We'll be skipping the menu cards at the reception though.

I had the opposite experience. I never intended to do programs and at the absolute very last minute I decided to do wedding brochures that double as programs and triple as "call anyone but the bride" (not in those words) contact info. We are having a small ceremony, but it's destination and on a yacht, so the weekend schedule is pretty tight, that it was almost necessary so everyone knew where/when to be. And it had all of the info for the rehearsal, dinner, ceremony, lodging, etc. I even had room for a memorial poem for my dear mother who recently passed.

I think they can be helpful but definitely not necessary. Smiley smile

Programs are absolutely not necessary, especially if it isn't a church wedding. They can be a nice addition if you want to have them but to tell the truth, most of them are left on the guests' chairs. (I see them as I'm leaving)

I did them because it's a nice touch for guests to have something to read while waiting for the ceremony to begin. Most people show up 20 minutes or so before the start. This way they don't have to just sit there. I did 140 of them for $0. Made them on Microsoft Word and printed them at work.

I am not using them on my wedding that is on Saturday! If I was going to have a big huge wedding then maybe. But for my intimate wedding of 50-55 ppl, there really is no need for all that Smiley smile

We made wedding programs. I wanted them to be kinda funny, and set the tone for a celebration rather than a stuffy wedding. So all they say is "Order of Ceremony: Get married, eat, everyone parties." We made them match the theme of the wedding, and I feel they are tastefully done - but a bit funny just the same!

We didn't do programs and nobody missed them. I also never noticed if other weddings I've been to had any. If they did, I never took one. I see them as a sometimes cute extra, but never a necessity. If it's causing you stress, just cut it out.

Programs just create litter, I don't think I have been to a wedding that had them.
