Skipping wedding band altogether?

Really, the people at Shane think pairing an engagement ring and a wedding band is something that is relatively new -- as in the last two decades? I was married over 30 years ago, and it was common -- expected, even -- for a woman to receive a diamond engagement ring and a wedding band. There is not a married woman I knew who didn't have both (unless they eloped -- then there was just the band). , My mother had a engagement ring/wedding band, as did every one of my friends' mothers. Both of my grandmothers (who were married in the 1920s-1930s) had engagement and wedding rings. The practice giving two separate rings has been around for a long time.

I always knew it to be e ring, then band. Admittedly, in my first marrriage, I only wore my band after the wedding.

My current plan is to just have my ring blessed at the wedding ceremony. Maybe get it engraved to signify its transition from an E-Ring to a wedding ring. I've considered a shadow band -- but I worry it will be too much. I am seriously considering just getting a simple band ring to wear when working with my hands.

I have my great-grandmother's e-ring and wedding band. She got married over 100 years ago.

It's definitely not a new thing, but it IS up to you to decide what you want.

The plan was to use the e-ring as my wedding band. Why buy something else? Then we went to pick out his band because he needs one. I ended up buying a band that matches FH's band. I shouldn't have done it! I'm so weak when it comes to pretty things!

When i married my late husband i only had a wedding band...although it was actually an anniversary ring with diamonds. Im glad i did it that way, because i can still wear it and it just looks like a cocktail ring on my right hand. This time Im using the cocktail ring my great great Aunt left me, that she made out of her wedding ring after my Uncle passed away. No wedding band.

I almost didn't get one with mine. My MOH does not have a band with her ring and doesn't want one either at any point (she is already married).

I've never heard of an e-ring only. Everyone has wedding bands but not everyone has e-rings. I will go with both.

I've never heard of not wearing a wedding band with your engagement ring. I realize engagement rings have not been around forever, but wedding bands have always been exchanged during the ceremony. Can you wear your engagement ring on your right hand? My sister-in-law does this and it's a really good look (she has an eternity band though).

I considered having no engagement ring, or just a wedding band that I would wear as both engagement ring and then later as wedding band. I think a single ring is actually the more traditional route, especially in other countries!
