How many people decide on saving the money and skipping the save the dates? I never really cared for them I think they are a waste of money and 90% of them get thrown away anyways. How many people decide on saving the money and skipping the save the dates? I never really cared for them I think they are a waste of money and 90% of them get thrown away anyways. I mean if you have the money to get them great but if you really don't have the money I think cutting them out of your wedding budget isn't a bad idea, especially when you have social media. We aren't doing them, but my future mother in law is really trying to push for us to have them. I told her I'm not wasting the money on them, I've talked about my wedding for a year now and the date. I've posted to social media a couple of times and even have the date on my profile picture and my background picture. She's like well some people go on vacation that time and without a save the date they won't have a heads up and end up missing your wedding. But it's like I told her if they come great if not because they didn't get a save the date I honestly really don't care, one less person I have to pay for. All that matters is that the important people are there which I'm sure they will because I have been talk about the wedding for a year now to them. Honestly they probably have it marked on their calendars because they probably can't wait for it to happen so I can shut up about it lmao.

I originally didn’t want to get them because I thought they’d be too expensive and pointless but my engagement pictures turned out so good and I got a good deal for my invitations so I was able to add the save the dates. I think it was nice too because probably about 70% of my guest list is from out of state so it gave everyone plenty of time to figure out travel plans and be prepared.

We skipped them. Just an unnecessary trend. You can send invites out 8-12 weeks ahead of time, and that’s plenty of notice.

There’s nothing wrong with skipping them! There are free ways to do them, though, if it’s that important. You can send email versions or even text ones. A friend of mine used free photo editing apps to make her own and email/text it to everyone.
We’re having Save the Dates because they’re in our budget and a lot of our guests will be traveling. It’s also how we’re ensuring they have the link to our wedding website for all important information. Originally, I was planning to skip them, but I found very affordable ones on Etsy.

I think you have the best attitude about this! You are so right if they don’t come they don’t... not everybody can make it! I did do save the dates but the last two weddings I went to I only got the invite and it gave me plenty of time to work around my schedule. Maybe send your invites a week earlier than you originally would have? I’ll be honest I WAISTED my money on save the dates. Only half of mine went out. Basically only family. My fiancé’s family is terrible with communication and I have done everything myself so when he didn’t give me addresses and his mom didn’t give me their friends addresses I said screw it! So basically $200 down the hole. Now they just sit in a box and I’ll eventually burn them or something 🤷🏽‍♀️ Maybe post wedding bonfire 😂

If you MIL wants you to do it just post your wedding website and just have the main page public that has the date and tell guest to check back for more info later. I sure wish I did that!
My biggest wedding regret and mistake was that I didn’t create my guest list until after I had given my family members their save the dates. I have 60 some days to my wedding and I still don’t have a finished guest list. Save your money and spend your time on the guest list instead of save the dates.

Also I do recommend magnet street for wedding stationary. I got trifold invites with inserts ( 275 of each) with envelopes for $320 instead of the ‘normal’ $600

I do not recommend DIY invites or save the dates... I tried and it was too much for me personally and I’m a person who does projects and crafts all the time!

We just sent out ours on Tuesday and used Greenenvelop, which is digital and goes to guests emails. They were a big hit and so easy.

There are so many great digital options out there! We did paper ones, but I’ve received many electronic ones as a guest and all worked out really well. I think that save the dates are so important and I hope the OP considers at least doing digital ones because it’s a great way to save money

I agree with you, if they can they will come if not then that's ok too. I am not doing save the dates for the same reason, and also skipping the programs. I myself like keeping the invitations they are prettier and if they have a picture of the couple they make a nice keepsake.

We will also be skipping programs. I just feel it's a wedding people really don't need the programs we all know how a wedding goes. Unless I was doing something very untraditional.

I was planning on using electronic save the dates and sending them by phone or email. I've been looking at some on Etsy and I think it'll be a really inexpensive way since some save the date templates just cost about $6-$7. So its very budget friendly to spend only that much and be able send it to an unlimited about of people. I also think it would be convenient for this year since you can go back and change any details and resend them.
