Skipping the cake cutting

KDS, on May 16, 2016 at 9:50 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 23

Is anyone else skipping the cake cutting?

I am indifferent and FH is adamant that we don't do it. "It's sooo stupid, why would you smash cake in someone's face???" I tried to explain that this wasn't necessary, but he still doesn't see the point of pretend cutting the cake.

My mom thinks people won't know when to get cake or when they can leave. She also thinks that we'll be sad that we didn't get pictures of us next to the cake... Thoughts?

I think you guys should do it! Just be kind to one another when you fed each other the cake!

We are still doing the cake cutting, but if FH smashes cake in my face that will be the end of him. We agreed not to smash the cake.

If you're both hovering between indifferent and negative, then go ahead and skip it. your DJ can announce when cake is served.

We're doing the cutting but not the smashing. If I get smashed cake on my dress I will so be getting my own room for the wedding night.

It's usually a nice photo op. You don't have to do the cake smash.

If you don't want to do it, don't! No one will miss it. Chris and I are going to tear a donut in half, as we aren't doing cake. Then we are going to resume dancing.

We're not cutting a cake and we aren't even having a cake. Donuts as well over here. There will be a his and hers. I posted a similar thread last week and it was about 50/50 on people that want you to cut it and people who don't care.

Lol, just asked FH again to not smash cake in my face at our wedding. He agreed that would be a waste on expensive cake.

@Gryffin and your makeup! Even if you're doing it yourself, Lord knows you're gonna spend a LOT of time on it that day!

We did a cake cutting, but we didn't announce it was going to happen. Our photographer and DJ both knew we wanted it low-key; our photographer grabbed us, we cut the cake and a handful of our guests saw. Then the cake was served. We got a sneak peek photo and I'm glad she took a picture, it was fantastic!

We had a cake cutting. But like all other traditions, you should follow it only if it's important to you. And it sounds like it isn't.

As far as people knowing when to leave, lots of people don't have the cake cutting at the end. We certainly didn't. We cut the cake early a) so the staff could get it all cut up and plated before it was time to have dessert, and b) so that it wouldn't call a grinding halt to the festivities. People will manage to leave without a cake cutting.

As for knowing when to eat the cake, you just have it brought out when it's been sliced and plated.

We will probably have the DJ announce dessert but I think we will pass on the cake cutting. Plus we are opting for cupcakes. We may do a few pictures holding cupcakes but I'm not for getting cake smashed in my face especially when I'm paying for professional make up....

You can take a picture with the cake and just not cut it. I'm skipping the whole garter tradition. I'm wearing one but I'm not gonna let my FH rip it off in front of my whole family and his.

I agree with your mom on this one ..that people won't know when to eat cake.

Cake cutting ceremony was one of my favorite parts !! We didn't smash the cake in each other's mouths ..we used forks like civilized people Smiley winking plus there was no way I wanted my perfect makeup-ed face cake smashed. Even though DH dropped a piece on my dress by accident Smiley sad

I am definitely not traditional. Watching people feed each other actually makes me feel uncomfortable! Haha we will either take a pic with the cake or do what my sister did and just take a picture cutting the cake. And believe me, we all knew when to eat cake!

We cut our cake while everyone was eating and no one noticed. No cake smashing and a few good pictured and back to dinner. It was perfect for us
